Hi All,

For years I have wanted to Vtec my mini but instead have converted my 1L auto to an 1.3L SPI Manual then decided to supercharge it. I should have followed my gut and put a Vtec in it.
Well now it is time.

My current mini engine details are below and can be found on http://www.dutchysmini.com/supercharging.html :

88 Rover mini
1275 Manual - Standard bottom end
Ported head, 35mm inlet valves
Ceramic coated Exhaust manifold
Eaton M45 Supercharger
Custom made inlet manifold
3 x 646cc Siemens injectors
2 core radiator
new clutch & seal
Autronic SM3 ECU (SM4 firmware)

Image

The Honda:
I purchased a JDM B16A complete with manifolds, 5spd transmission, ECU, engine wiring, gear linkages, driveshafts & dash cluster.

I am aiming to build my own frame to fit the B16A into my round nose without extending or modifying the front.
Tough ask from what I can see and from what most people on here are saying.
I have discussed with my engineer who has given me all the relevant info to get it passed and registered.

IN the mean time, a few goodies have been purchased.

- Wilwood Pedal kit from Minitec
- Minisport 4 piston calipers & 8.4" vented and slotted front discs
- Stainless exhaust manifold
- New Radiator & hoses
- Second hand rocker cover - cleaned and blasted ready for red wrinkle paint

I was considering buying a half cut and working with that for the subframe build but after much thought i think it will be better to use my body and strip my engine out.
Before I do I was was thinking of seeing what interest is out there for my complete engine with supercharger and ECU. You could pretty much drop it in, wired it in and away you go.

Any ideas on what it would be worth? if anyone is interested then PM me to discuss. l want to leave it in the vehicle for serious buyers to test drive before pulling it out. Based in Melbourne VIC.

Cheers,
Dutchy

It will be a slow project but i will keep you all updated.

Do you not like the supercharger set up? Just wondering why you want to rip it out after so much work.

Love it especally like some of the parts, I had a look at your website and build log, should be great build to follow with Honda power.
Hoping to do much the same with mine, similar colour, but not same and no stripes, and same wheels 13 by 7 and same brakes but with Suzuki GTi power

Thanks all for your support.
@ Babes, it is well noted that minis like to breathe an when they say breathe they mean negative crank case pressure. Any forced induction is positive pressure and as well as the car goes it is almost like you are making someone do something they don't want to do. In the end I decided to do this project for several reasons.
- Reliability
- The 5spd manual
- Better fuel economy
- and something that isn't common in Australia. The challenge.

Do you no they will offer a discount for two frames? A cant imagine the freight being any cheaper as it is usually cubed.

What do you think? Have you seen it done before?

From what ive seen on 16v forum discounts can be had from multiple purchases, but normally multiple is more than 2 (more like 5).
You may be able to save on shipping and import tax by getting them together though.

If I won the lottery tomorrow I would buy an Allspeed frame but it would have to be a division 1 win and not the $14.60 I got last time.

Can be done and plenty have. I'm currently doing my own as I haven't won lotto for a long while.

The engineer I talked to wanted FEA reports for the Allspeed frame. I'll give him FEA reports!!!

I can only use the tools I have access to.

For me it's about, eventually, getting to the finish, not finishing first. Besides, didn't Lamborghini start out building tractors? :o

Keep us all posted !
If I hadn't gone down the WRX path I'd have fitted a B18 and the Allspeed frame. It keeps the track original and "just" fits in a roundy.

Finally got a start on the project last Sunday. Engine & subframe out. This weekend I will clean out the rest of the parts and if time permits start cutting out the inner wheel arches.
