Hi folks

I've been sent here from other mini forums as I've been told its you guys that have been pulling out starlet engines and putting them into classic minis.

I've got a 1.3 4efe starlet which i'm currently using to get me to work and back (the plan was to use this until the new year when I get my mini, get a micra and then do the micra conversion) but I suddenly thought, could I put in my starlet engine?

Has anyone used the 4efe for a conversion? My engine seems bullet proof and no wonder as the last 15 years its been owned by a Vicar haha.

I won't be doing most the work as I don't have the knowledge or tools so will be outsourced but thought I would ask you all first before pulling out an engine that may just be too much work for the hassle.

I really appreciate any feedback

Sam.

P.S I've put a link to the engine I have if that helps at all.

Those engines have been done out here a fair bit so there is enough knowledge for help on the matter, howerver as you are not doing the work yourself I would very highly suggest you go with a micra or swift engine since you can buy subframes ready done for them. It will make life much easier whoever does the build for you.

Don't give up so easily. There might be a fair bit more work in the 4EFTE conversion, but you have the advantage that you have it already.

One of the best i have seen is Josh's one in this topic. Read all 71 pages to see what you would be in for.

This one is a bit insane. Too much body flex for mine, but it was all done legally apparently.

A search on minstar posts will lead you to all sorts of topics through his build.

A search on 13secmini posts will lead you to all sorts of topics through the Mini Conversions forum. He was the first one to go down the 4EFTE route.

cheers
michael

I don't know if it's a typo but the original poster said they had a 4EFE not a 4EFTE so 85 odd hp not the EFTE's 130 something hp.

For that (some 10 extra hp than the CG13) the ease of fitment, and lighter weight (alloy engine) of a CG13DE will possibly win out? The CG13 responds well to some very simple mods like improved exhaust and inlet manifolds which you'd have to do anyway.

HP figures from wiki on the engines not sure how accurate they might be...

I think the n/a and micra engines have very identical power. Yeah if it was the 4efte the power increase would be worth the effort.

For the price of 4efte engines over here it would still be cheaper to just turbo the micra engine (although again a bit more work) if I fancied it after a while.
