Not an update as such: just something for people that had been watching from the start - I'm thinking that perhaps I'd be open to offers for all of my GTI parts and conversion bits. The short version of the list is:

Subframe - painted and ready to bolt in.
Driveshafts
Radiator - modified and welded to be reverse of normal radiator.
Inlet manifold - My very special performance manifold that looks completely stock!
2x GTI engines - 1 that was running plus an extra short block.
2x gearboxes (cino type for reduced RPM when driving).
Everything I stripped out of the donor GTI car - full wiring, dash, driveline, brakes, fuel tank, exhaust.
Engine mounts, alternator mounts, clutch adapter parts all painted and ready to go.
Shifter linkages modified and ready to install

Haven't completely decided what I'm going to do yet but the offer of green stuff might change my mind as it will help with the honda build!
Wouldn't go cheap though - I put hundreds of hours into research, design, and the building of everything thinking I'd keep the car forever.

Is this the stuff I tried to buy off you before? if so how much

It's the GTI stuff.
As I say: It's make an offer.
If I like something I'll follow it up later.

Update time! :D

I had a good run over the chrissy / new year period where I was able to complete a few jobs.

Gave the engine a freshen up, where just about everything short of the head was stripped off it, replaced, cleaned up or whatever else it needed to be:

The gearbox was a headache but mainly from getting a few of the parts I needed, that said its now rebuilt with new final drive, bearings and had a clean and some shiny paint applied.

Fuel tank has had a good wash out, and a new fuel pump and gauge sender installed:

Subframe all finished, was sandblasted and industrial 2-packed. Rebuilt booster can be seen perching on top temporarily.
Final finished subframe used no original parts from a donor frame. This is 100% all new steel.

And with all the main bits and pieces done it was time for that big moment where it all went together for what I hope is the last time:

As you can see the cooling system is now all finished with the welded up radiator and hoses done, inlet manifold has been rebuilt and the brakes have been fitted up too so I can sort out some hoses. All went together pretty well I'm really happy with the result. :D

Looks really good Harley. Is it going straight in or is the body getting some work done first? Also, do those headers fit behind the grille ok?

Got six months of bodywork to do before this drives unfortuantely, the shell is currently missing more panels than it has still attached.

Those headers to clear, but it's still the cast iron manifold I'll be using when the exhaust gets done I think.

I'll be knocking up a jig in the week and getting some new flanges cut for it so its dimensionally the same flange to flange as the cast unit, but if it all gets too hard the cast one is my backup.

It's a rover mini so had subframe mounting rubbers, not sure if Harley's are solid, rubber(given the colour probably not) or nolethane polyurethane etc

Solid alloy mounts. I'm using these too.

The fuzzy hair man and Dutchy man are correct: they're solid alloy subframe mounts. Rubber ones have been abandoned completely as is most notable by the rear body mounts and the tower locator rings being incorporated onto the tower tops. I figured since they're attached and not going anywhere the front ones may as well too, though its mainly so I don't have to try and get my hand into a difficult spot to locate them!

There's been progress this month - not much new to see though.

I've done the wiring for the engine and had it running in the subframe - runs pretty well, I was mainly happy is ran at all given it was purchased from a wrecker interstate and turned up on a pallet.

Driveshafts have been assembled, hubs rebuilt with new ball joints and brakes, brake hoses have been sorted and I've started on the vast amount of bodywork the car needs. So far I have replaced half the boot floor and the outer sills - I still have to do the A panels, guards and front end so lots of work to do over the next month before I can start some actual assembly of things.

I've also updated my CAD model to a higher level of detail. :D

Nice drawings. Good to hear your still progressing. Make sure you tub the rear wheel arches while your at it. One thing I wish I did when restoring mine. It will avoid the scraping of the tyres on the sport pack arches.

Wish I had the time to do it now but I dont - I'll just have to do it after the car is engineered before I paint it.

Seems I've barely updated this thread in the last year - well work is still progressing but just at a very slow pace.

My main problem at the moment is bodywork. I've replaced both outer sills, boot floor, both A panels, the front / apron, and done a mk1 tail lamp conversion too. There is still a lot more to go thoughbut with the end of the bodywork in sight I'm hoping to have that side of things sorted and ready for the car to get some paint in the next few months. :D
