127hp @ 6500rpm
The rockers were not changed from standard pressed steel ones, no fancy big ratio rockers here my friends. No mucking with hybrid rockers to get the ratio up either.
The medium bore LCB was not connected to any exhaust bigger that 1-7/8inch. A cannon muffler was not added to the end of the exhaust, just a normal everyday 2inch muffler.
The cam was not timed other than making the dots on the duplex sprockets line up. No fancy offset keys or vernier adjustable camwheels required.
The chokes in the 45mmWeber were not made any larger than 36mm. No ramtubes.
No electronic distributor, just a points dizzy from a wrecked 78 leyland with new points. I did not even clean it
(i have to admit we tried to get a pulsar dizzy to work, but i think it has a dud module)
No new spark plugs, just a set of used, but clean Bosch plugs with the correct gap.
No fancy alloy rocker cover, just a plain old steel one (not really a performance part, but it makes it look so like a stock engine, especially with the BMC hot run and electronically tuned sticker still on it!).
Many of the parts of this motor are second hand, but carefully checked and modified as necessary. Some just got a good clean. Some not even that. Hell the distributor still has the wreckers white writing on it.
Where does the 127hp come from then i hear you ask? ( or maybe not
, but i'll tell you anyway)
1411cc, 10.9:1 compression on 98 octane, RE282 cam and a very special head made by Graham Russell to complement the cam. The spread of torque is fantastic, 100+ftlb from 3000rpm all the way to 7000rpm. Despite my comments about fancy high ratio rockers above, Graham reckons there is significant gains to be made by increasing the ratio to 1.5:1, which i may do in the future.
I am very happy with that.
Graham is very happy with that. Lets all be very happy with that. Russell Engineering is the best.
off to the weekend warrior with it then........
cheers
michael
