Ok, finally got the new bits installed.
Yes its a crap picture... better than none I say :)

Thats the crank timing wheel and sensor - no more dizzy, running the megajolt now.
EDIS 4, coilpacks and Megajolt... starts and idles SO much better... need to get laptop connected to setup all the timing.

MANY thanks to Kev (Dr Mini) for the help - couldnt have done it without ya!
Also, Ben as usual ;)

Oh, and thanks again to Kev for letting me leave it there a couple days while I fixed the wiring issues I created :)

One tip!!!! If your car wont start, make sure your fuel pump cut off it turned on! I nearly killed it because it stalled then wouldnt start again... AHHHH! These motor thingy's need fuel do they!

Oh so tiny :)

Cheers,
Peter

For those wondering how the Ford ED Falcon trigger wheel is attached, I welded a spacer to it, machined inside the balancer hub for location, then used 2 socket head capscrews into the threaded `puller holes'.
Original idea was to screw it onto the inner hub's flange with M5 screws, until I cut an old balancer up and found it's only 2mm thick there, and, it's only brittle cast iron.

BTW these things are best attached to the inner hub, as if bolted to the outer, that can sometimes creep around on the rubber insert and muck up the timing.

I was going to ask where you got the trigger wheel from... now I don't have too

Looks great, all I've heard is praise for the MJ ignition. If I was still going A-series I'd run an MJ 8) Does the 'Lite' version have all the features of the big box? It's tiny in comparison :o

Actually the wheel was off an EL falcon... not ED
Sensor is off the same falcon, coil pack and EDIS4 is off a Mondeo

Good luck getting the Timing wheel off... I spent half the day there... yes I didnt have all the tools needed but boy oh boy.

Ill give you the method :)

Take off grille
Take off Radiator
Take off Air con
Take off belts
Take off top pulley
Undo harmonic balancer nut - size 22 or 24 (cant recall) - Ah! Cant hold the motor...
ok, remove rocker cover
Stick bar in cam timing chain sprocket holes
Undo harmonic balancer nut
Get a three prong puller to take off harmonic balancer
Oops, ripped off the balancer from the rubber its mounted to... bugger
Ok, try again now, grabbing the centre of the balancer - yay! Came off
Cool, now I have a balancer and the timing wheel sitting directly behind it...
Oh crap, its pressed on in factory.
Ok, use puller to try to seperate - nope, wont budge
Time for the VBFH stick big flathead screwdriver between timing wheel and balancer, smack, do that on all three 'holes' finally starts to move... keep smacking, pulling with puller, smacking and finally get it off.

Go home and look at this little wheel that cost you $20 and scraped knuckles, half a day and a sunburn

;)

Pete

Good to know what model you got it off, why is the coil pack and EDIS4 off a Mondeo and not the EL :?:

Mondeo is 4 cylinder and EL is 6

So why don't you use the wheel and sensor off a mondao then?

If you think getting it off an EL is hard, you should see the mondeo :) East West Motor if I recall correctly and a nightmare to get to the sensor and timing wheel.

They are all the same thing in essence (off a ford basically) 36-1 toothed wheel (means 35 teeth total and one 'missing') and the VR sensors are all basically the same. Different way they mount, thats about it.

Pete.

Have you ever tried to get a crank pulley off a Mondeo (in a wrecking yard with the wrong tools) or any other modern FWD for that matter. PITA... :x

Yep, no probs mate I will do.

For those interested, you dont have to have a turbo or anything, this is basically timing for any car using the EDIS technology. Expect to pay total for the setup around $400-$500 really... VR sensor, Timing wheel, EDIS4 module, Shielded Wire, and a computer to run it (Eg/ Megajolt, Megasquirt, etc)

Pete.
