Why is the exsaust valves white and the intake valves black? Too lean?
It's a 12g295 head, and now that it's off what should I do to it.....porting perhaps?

foot note: running twin 1 1/4 su's, 1100 crank

The exhaust valve gets hotter than the inlet valve, but it may be getting hot I don't know much about these things

One thing I'll tell ya -gotta start running coolant instead of water - look at all that corrosion.

big = intake (as ive finally learnt!)

piston one looks like its just got a drop of water on it
simple work to head = from $600 from mini places

while the heads off clean the gunk you see in the water channels
replace the head/block adapter tube on the head (far left little tube under thermostat housing
and clean the block surface

isnt it great taking a head off a car!

Where are you looking?

I can see what looks like a droplet of water sitting as bead on top of the oil on the piston.

The second photo seemed to look like a hole but I think it is probably not now it might be the reflection on the droplet that makes it look that way, I was thinking it was a very symetrical hole but I wasn't sure how these things formed    Sorry didn't mean to panic anyone

I'd be worried about what happened to the rest of that valve (no. 2 exhaust)!!

Oh and practise on a junk head (like 12g202's   ... waits to be flamed....), and after your sure you won't bugger it, go to town.

Better yet, sell off the 12g295 while it's in 'pre-worked' condition and get a 12g202 worked fully. Especially if you're gonna have a go yourself!!

Otherwise just clean it up and have unleaded seats inserted, & have it mildly ported. the '295 chamber design is already pretty good, & the ports are fairly close to right already. Can be improved tho'

Good luck
Matt
