yeah, check bunnings willy. I picked up a 25 piece (?) spanner set for $26..... i DID snap an open ender once, took it back, they swapped it for a new set, no questions asked - i only ever use the rings ends now anyway.... the set comes in the usual black plastic holder. Its sold in a yellow and black box.
simple answer is when you break the 7/16", 1/2" or 9/16" el cheapo spanner/socket you replace that size with a good quality sidchrome, snapon etc one of the same size. you will break the cheapo ones in this size at some stage because like the doc says 99% of the nuts in a mini are this size.
nothing on the road has happened to me over a LOT of miles that i could not fix with 7/16" - 1/2" ring, 9/16" combination, flat screwdriver, philips screwdriver or leatherman multi tool. my brother was driving when the brakes failed so that doesn't count

if you keep it well maintained to start with you are less likely to have problems
