From Unique Cars website: When BMC's Austin Gypsy and Champ failed to put a dent in the Land Rover's dominance of four-wheel drive sales charts, Britain's most prolific car-maker took a different approach to the off-road and military-vehicle markets.
Drawing in some respects on the Jeep, which brought all-terrain access to the world, BMC in Britain commissioned a vehicle light enough to be dropped by parachute, or carried by its occupants across difficult terrain.
The Moke's development as a military vehicle was supervised by Mini designer Sir Alec Issigonis, with focus on weight reduction and the manouvrability to scuttle through hostile terrain before the enemy knew it was there.
But try as I might, I can't find a pic. Corgi made a model of it though.
