Yankee freight prices can be XXXXXpensive.

Seems that FEDEX and UPS etc. have the freight market out of the US stitched up pretty tight. Prices may be nice but get a firm quote on freight first.

You might be surprised to find that the freight has cost you more than the parts if heavy or oversized.

Get in quick as the Ozzie dollar is going to nosedive against the USD. See if they will send it surface mail in two parcels. The reason for this is if it comes into the country via Aussi Post with a value less than $1000 it comes in duty/gst free. If it comes in UPS, Fedex etc then when the value exceeds $250 it cops duty/gst. I have brought a few things in from the US via Aussie Post and never paid anything. Last week I brought a used data logger in via UPS with a value of $600 and UPS put duty on it including an opening fee. The Yanks don't like using surface mail as it is inconvenient for them, but stick to your guns and insist, I will next time.

If you are going to send stuff in 2 parcels don't send them together. keep them at least 1 week apart, preferably more.
Tip from my Customs insider...

Ask them if they can send EMS (Express Mail Service). It takes only 2-3 days is heaps cheaper than FEDEX or UPS and comes in via Australia post so you avoid customs issues you get with the others. You can also track your parcel online.
