they did this years ago with motorcycles for learners and provisional licence holders - claims it would kill off certain parts of the industry. crap. it just opens other markets.

think about the name of the licence - PROVISIONAL - that means that if you hold one of these its not a real licence anyway, just one that they let you have to see if you can behave.

just get on with your lives people it is not that much of a hassle really.

The bike market is hardly anywhere near the size off modified car industry though, I think this rule will hurt a few businesses, but will hardly kill them off..

Gordo, they got around it for a while and made crazy fast 250 2-strokes, but those too are illegal now, it's all a power to weight ratio thing, so everyone goes about the same speed.. I rode a 650cc Yamaha Cruiser on my L's..my 250cc Honda CB was just about exactly the same in acceleration...the 650 was a tad quicker above 80 and it did have a huuge amount of torque...Mhhhmm..

I cant Believe that they still allow ALL smart cars. went for a ride it the roadster version, and there not as slow as you'd think. what about a lotus elise? or a new VX Commonwhore 5 speed with 175kw?? almost as fast as an NA XR6!!!!

The RTA needs to spend money on this crap cuz its cheaper that educating younger drivers. i wonder which approach would save lives???

OK, let's get one thing straight. The Daily Telegraph and Channels 7 & 9 ran a campaign against P Platers, some would say with good reason. The government started getting booted around the political landscape so the did something. The RTA only implemented their political masters wishes. You can bet they monitor forums such as this and every time someone comes up with a car they haven't got on the list it will be added. The list is only a guide, the regulation is all encompassing. This along with import restrictions should give the industry a real shower for a while.

The NA XR6 has the same power as all the other 4L Falcons ;) 182Kw accross the board....only difference is tickford tuned suspension and 17" Alloys..

What about the 190Kw Alloytec Commodore, is that on the list?

I took a look at the banned list for P plates and there is a lot of merit in the new rules. They have banned some very high performance cars like the Simca Vedette.

Image

This fire breathing beast has a 2353cc V8 engine with side valves (ask your grandfather) and puts out a whopping 80bhp (about 60kw) They have done the right thing by stoping the kiddies from killing themselves in one of these weapons.

But that is not all that they have banned, take a look at these two cars.....

Image
Image

One of them is on the banned list and the other isn't.
One of them has a 2.5 litre engine and the other has a 4.2 litre. Which one would you ban?
Thats right! The one with the V8!
The V8 is the 2.5 litre and is banned but the 4.2 is a six so it must be safe!

The RTA making the roads safe.

Yep!
But if you have an ex cop Charger with the 318 you are in trouble! (my brother had a 318 ex cop Charger when he was on P's 25 years ago)
