Paint is almost out of the way, now it's mechanicals time.

If I have had open brake / fuel lines for some time (1 - 2 years) what is the best way to clean the inside of these lines? Do I just blow them out with compressed air? Or should I run some cleaning solution through them (metho, acetone, paint thinners...)?

Yea, yea, should have sealed the lines....I know....did it at work for years, thats probably why I didn't do it at home....

I have never done it, but I would just use diesel.

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

sorry mate i think you are best to replace them. YOu could try the deisel thing, but if there is rust in em then there's rust in them. There not like a tank where you can line them. If buying new ones. get them made up by a manufacturer and bend them yourself. Much cheaper.

These guys helped me out with pipes for a booster and were well priced, ie cheap and made them up on the spot for me. Have a chat with them and then takem down to them they will put the connectors on that are needed. These guys are manufactures and wholesalers. Go to the source i always say!

If they've had fluid in them and just collected a bit of crud in them. Flush them with Isopropyl Alcohol(rubbing alcohol), and use compressed dry air.

The alcohol mixes with the oil, and flushes it out, but dries without leaving any residue. Applies to most hydraulic fluids.

If they've gone dry, I would replace them.

Just flush the fuel lines out with clean fuel and they should be fine, as long as there is no rust.

And yeah, Anton, ya should know better than anyone to blank off any open lines LOL

I'll take your advice for the fuel lines, and thanks Makka and Aaron, I will buy new brake lines. Must admin I never considdered buying new....dunno why. Will check out th eplace at Thornleigh. Pass through there every day.

I got a new F/R brake line made at B & R Brakes (now Better Brakes) Blacktown. Cost me $23.
A front L-R one cost me $15. Copper coated tube, copper plated fittings.

I took him samples.

For fuel line, go buy some steel line from Robbos, make yer own- and a cheap bender is handy. I used 5/16" O/D tube.
