Factory recommended 10W30, 10W/40, or 20W/50.
In Australia, any name brand 20W/50 is OK.
Don't use anything fancy with additives (like Castrol Magnatec).
The factory warns against this in the handbook and workshop manual.

I wouldn't use synthetic in it, either. It's designed for mineral oils.
If you want it to last well, change the oil & filter OFTEN. Like, every 1500 miles max.

I've had a few autos- 2x 1275s (Morrie 1300) and 998 MiniMatic. Keep the oil clean and they are pretty bulletproof.

Castrol Formula R mineral is my choice. You'll know you're buying the right grade Formula R, as the others are like $60-$70. The right one (25w50) will be under $30. 8)

As said, change your oil often. Don't let it go more than 5000km.

sorry for the hi-jack but its on a similar topic, when youve changed the oil, do you need to turn the car over a few times with no-spark to get the oil pressure up once again like you do when youve just rebuilt your engine? I was just wondering as ill be doing my first ever mini service on the weekend, ill be doing the whole oil, filter and plugs and i dont wanna mess it up,
thanks
trent

fill the oil filter with oil before installing it.

put 20w50 in the auto
not gtx3 or anything like that, it ruins the box.

Um isn't the auto's filter on it's side... bit hard to do. :?

Poeee- "Castrol Formula R mineral is my choice. You'll know you're buying the right grade Formula R, as the others are like $60-$70. The right one (25w50) will be under $30."-

I wouldn't run that in an auto tranny, too thick.. it's the old Castrol GP50.
Stick with 20W/50.. I get Valvoline for $9.95 a 4L can.

No need. Everything is full of oil already.
