Hidi ho fellow mini freaks,

I bought myself 2 nice CAMS approved Quell fire extinguisher for a pretty good price. One is going in the house the other into the mini :) It comes with a quick release bracket that has holes for mounting.

Where do you mount it? I've seen racers with it between the front driver and passenger side, just in front of the gearstick. I have checked this out and it seems the fit is ok, but it may be hard to step on the high beam floor switch with it there...

Anyway, do I just drill holes in the body and screw it in?? :? sounds rather ... err permanent to me... is there any other voodoo methods?

cheers!

Beware the plastic brackets. They will break real easy in an accident....

I think best place to mount one is on the passenger's side wheelarch. It's not in your road and you can still get to it if needed.
Drivers side wheelarch is better to get to, but it's something else to hit in a prang.

Revolution Racegear used to sell a double bracket, it is a steel bracket with two straps around the extinguisher.

If you only have the plastic strap leave the extinguisher in the boot until you can get a metal bracket.

I have seen extinguishers come loose at the track and roll under the pedals or worse....

Thanks for the replies, I got a steal bracket that came with the extinguisher. Looks heavy duty... (ie. not whimpy crappy metal...)

1KG Quell extinguisher, metal quick release bracket $30 from Big W  I think it's the wrong price as it was not in their code database and the 1.5KG extinguisher was $79! so $30 is a relative bargain...

You're right... it needs to be permanent. I like the sound of mounting it in the rear seat area on the round bump bit just behind the handbrake... looks like an ideal place. I think it is the ultimate accessory! Makes your car look the business with an extinguisher and all

I want to put one in because of the new Dellorto I am putting in on the weekend.. more fuel... more air... just in case...

I got one from Big W as well, they have a ton of them. Make sure you get the one with the metal bracket and not the plastic one.

I was going to bolt mine just under the front drivers side seat, this way, I should still be able to grab it if I'm strapped in with a 5 point harness :). If its on the passenger side, I'd be struggling.
