Here's my story.
Well anyways, I headed off down to torquay in my van for a surf cause it was such a great day. 1/2 way down, I noticed that going up slight hills, it started missing ever so slightly. I got there fine.
Started it up ready to head home, started missing more. Wasn't overly bad, so started heading home. It would ping and miss getting upto speed, but it would still sit at 60mph (on the flat or down hill). It made it home.
Well I decided to go out later on, well it was real bad. Managed to get it around the block and back into my drive.
This is when I started to fix the problem.
First thing I do when something like this happens is trouble shoot the ignition. I find it's the easyest and usually the most common problem to fix. I've had a set of new Bosch plugs sitting here for a while, so they went in. At the same time, I took the dizzy cover off and cleaned up the rotor cap and checked points gap. I also flogged the leads off the moke and wacked them in (Moke doesn't need them, it isn't registered!).
Started it up. Problem is still there. BUM!
So i'm thinking i'll put a new set of points in (I have a new set laying round) and new condensor tomorrow.
I continued on to check stuff. I did the trick of pulling a lead off each plug, one at a time. Obviously, if the engine runs rougher when ya take a lead off, then it isn't that cylinder. I started at no.4, that was the prob, then take no.3 off the plug, the lead fell off in my hand! Funnily enough, the engine continued to run exactally how it had been. Well I put the lead back on, fired it up, BROOM! Fine.
So the problem is the leads and dizzy cap I recon. Loose connections on no.3 on the dizzy cap. It's running fine, and will have to do until I get around to ordering a new dizzy cap (unless supercheap stock them, bahaha I think not!). I will also pick up 5 new bosch leads.
