Hey what do you all use to sela the thermo housing. i use two paper gaskets (one on each side of the steady bracket plate smeared in aviation grade sealant (Loctite #3). Would RTV silicone gasket maker be better or is there a chance of it leaking in, brushing against the thermostat or blocking the water pump?

RTV gasket maker is OK on water, but I like Loctite 515 master gasket better. But it's pricey stuff.. $20 a tube...

Paper gasket, loctite gasket compound is what I uses. I pulled it apart recently after 3 months or so and it looks pretty good...

PS. replace the thermostatic housing with the alloy type that you can get these days. Worth it since my old original one was only half of a housing left  god knows where the other half is! sonewhere in the cooling system
