look tommo just take my word for it last night two semis come together
as i said the new englande is a much better rd and much safer it is called the gentlemans road for a reason cowboys run the pacific goat track drivers who are inteligent use the new england unless thommo you have driven either rd at night in a semi there is no explaining and for thouse who have driven it in a semi no explanation is needed

Well I flew down and picked up the flying yellow brick on Sat morning and started the long drive back. She ran extremely well until about 100k short of Bordertown (on the SA-Vic border) where suddenly as soon as I got her to 3.5 - 4k rpm she cut back to 2 cylinders and 60kph farting and carrying on, pulled over and couldn't see anything wrong started her up and the same thing happened. Having flown down I had no tools so I stopped at every little town and eventually found a mechanic who wasn't at the footy who had a look, shook his head and said it was an SU problem and he couldn't help (I know what a great mechanic).
I limped her all the way to Bordertown stopping every 10 minutes to let the line of traffic behind me to pass  Got there and the one guy who knew SU's was out of town on a trip to Adelaide  I rang Jim's old man and he said it sounded like an air blockage in the fuel line as it's happened before. I cleared the air and it went fine for a minute then died again so I suspected the pump and found a nissan service shop open so had a new electric pump put on.
Problem solved, she ran great all the way to Gosford in NSW where I stayed at a mates overnight. Went to leave the next morning and was greeted by a growing pool of Fuel under her  I grabbed a screwdriver from my mate, crawled under to find the "new" pump leaking fuel from its casing. Off to the Autospares to pick up yet another new pump, a couple of spanners, sidecutters and a crimping kit. Back under the car and 15 minutes and a shower later and I was back on the road with no other problems the entire way home.
Aside from a small oil leak the motor runs brilliantly much to the chagrin of a few ricers on the way  I even had a copper follow me for about 20k's (I was taking it very easy at the time  ) and pulled into the pump next to me when I pulled into a servo for fuel. I thought he was going to have a go about something but he just commented on how great it ran and how well it handled the hills  Though he did say the exhaust was a "little" loud but laughed as he said it.
It was actually a shame to get home, I was enjoying the road trip so much. I'm already looking for another reason to go on my next

Taking it easy it was around 4L/100k , about 5L if I got a bit heavy footed  It was a bit more at first but got better after about 800k.
