OK dudes...

What are the best options for tyre sizes to stick on my wheels...

I've got 3.5 , 4.5, and 5.5's all 10" diameter (obviously)

what sizes am i looking for for each...

and also what brand... althought yoko A008's sound like the best option
(they're $105 at the glynde bob jane if you're interested)

and can some of the genius' that reside here inform me of some characteristics of my options... ie brand - x = good in rain... etc...brand - y = alrounder etc..

I'd be guessing 165's would be too much for the 3.5? Should be orite on the other 2 sizes.

165/70/10 Falken's are around $70-$80 per tyre, very good wearing compared to the yokohama's, dunlop formula r's are $12o but also wear quickly, i'd go with the falken

The tyres that i had on my mini when i got it are a 145/80 R10.. they look great cause there is little tread seen and seem wider, i have recently had to replace one and got a 145/70.. looks crap... this probably doesn't help u too much, just wondering if n e one else has ever ran 145 or 165/80's.

Yeah i'm running 145/80 Cum hoes... whooops Kumho's.
They seem to be good enough for my driving styles.

I've got 165s on the rear (not sure what profile) ... Bridgestones and i swear these dont grip very much at all; i can feel the back nip out when i turn a corner quickly.

yeah these are on 4.5" Jellybean mags; so 145/165 doesnt really matter for 4.5" wide wheels, so it seems.


P.S. Don't touch Bridgestone tires *shudder*

so hows the grip on the falkens?

and is there a model number or somthing for them? eg a008?

The Falkens are 165/70-10, FK07E.
I ran them for years. They do wear well but are crap in the wet when a bit worn. Also with 115HP they don't grip off the line- just dig holes..
So I now run Yoko A008s- they are better in wet and dry, much better traction off the line too. Sure they wear a bit faster, but I hardly do many miles now.

re the Bridgestone SF226s- used as a set of 4, they are not too bad, I have them on the S `replica' and the Clubbie. You shouldn't mix different brands on a Mini..

Hmmm... as I understand it, 145/80 R10 is a tyre which is 145mm wide, with a sidewall height that is 80% of the width, or about 116m. 145/70 has a sidewall height of about 101.5mm. So you have different sized tyres on your car? Does it point down in one corner?

the difference u have described is 5.5 mm, i think it would be closer to 14.5mm , if it does point down i don't think i would pick it up, it is on the rear passanger side so the little bit of extra weight of the fuel tank could help this out. Also the main thing i have noticed is that the profile seems to be different, on my 'generals' 80s, it seems to be much squarer than the new tyres 70s, so the overall height may be the same.

Bridgestone SF226s I have on Morris (wife’s Mini) if I could not trust them with my wife's, who can I trust them with...Good all-round tyre.

80/70/60/55 and 50 is the profile the lower it is, it is the e profile or size of the outerwall of the tyre. These profiles are adjusted in regards to your wheel diameter and the original wheel size, Normally...Other wise your rice or a FWDriver Anyway


if your on 10" 80/70
12" 70/60

13" 60/55 or their abouts..

10" is the natural Mini Idea...13" just up sets everything..

Just thought worth pointing out that the tyres are different which is probably illegal but also not doing a lot for the handling. Then again, I can't talk. I've got a Clubman in the driveway with widened steel wheels on three corners... (but they're destined for the bin)

I've got 165 SF226's all round. there's no problem with them from a safety point of view - they're quite ok for normal driving, but if you push them, not much traction off the line at all and way too much understeer for a mini - supposed to handle better than it does. will be trying something better soon

I currently have a set of not so new falkens (10x165's)on my car and getting near the markers. Kevin is spot on about them in the wet... P'sOS i have to go very carefully around all corners otherwise its understeer big time.
I was thinking of buying a pair of A008's over Falkens but now it seems the Falkens would be a good comprimise for wear and performance.

My Yoko A008s are getting down near the markers but they still do grip in the wet. Gafmo and I had a play with it in the rain today.
