just interested as to where people have been able to get a comfy idle on there cars. The van is just a touch over 1000rpm with a 1275 with twin .25su's. and the clubby is a nice stock 998 idleing quite happily at 600rpm. the clubby never ceases to amase me in how stock the thing is.

Cheers

Aaron

Yeah ditto on the 1000 rpm...... 1310 with a huge ported head and 2 x 1.25 SU's so i guess it might have to idle a bit higher :?:

mine idles around 800. after a long run it usually creeps to around 1000. any lower than 800 and it feels a little rough.

actually that is a good question, sorry to have to hijack aaron but the dellorto in my mini is making mine idle at 1200rpm or so, the idle screw is all the way out (lowest setting). what else could it be taht is making it idle so high and how do I reduce it?

Chong,
Your 45 Dellorto has throttle plate idle bypass circuits, maybe one or both is a bit open.
These are the 2 little screws with the rusty locknuts on them. Loosen the locknuts and make sure the screws are right in.. but don't force them. Then tighten the nuts. 8)

I dunno, dont have a tacho, and my carby is that shot that it idles anywhere between stalling and 2 grand when it sticks open.

Note about that: Makka I've got the HIF almost ready to go, just need a spacer plate between the carby and manifold, and it should be ready to bolt up. Minispares customer service impressed me so much, I wont be utilising their business again.

It is interesting to see that most of the mini's are idling around the 1k mark. I guess it goes to show that most have been "Tuned" a little with added cams and carbs. I know my clubby is stock as it actually runs to the manufacures spec! The van used to have twin 1.5su's and i found them to be more hassle than there worth with trying to tune them. as the car was an everyday drivers sitting in traffic it was just too lumpy to run low and used way too much petrol when you had it up high. I guess the solution should have been a roolingroad to sort it out a bit, but the fact is, is there anywhere in sydney that does rolling roads on minis that does a good job. Only recently have i heard of someone that has a clue, and that is 2nd hand info, so i still don't know if i wold be willing to throw $400 at a rolling orad session to get it right. Anyway, i went for twin 1.25 and have had absolutly no issues with rough idle on the van ever since.

Cheers

Aaron

My van idles happily with a nice cammy "rump, rump" at 800rpm.

In winter I take it up to 900-1000rpm so it copes better with the alternator running the heater and headlights all the time.

last time i checked
someone measured a natural idle at 2-300
but he turned it up to 400 for better driving
not too sure what it is now, ive mucked around with it
