anyone tried the rubber chips (made from chopped up old tyres) as under carpet material??? it has a few good points....its not effected by water (wont get smelly).... it should act as a noise/vibration barrier nicely... should let any trapped water drain away better than underfelt... probably nice underfoot too..
is it in some sort of resin susspention.. apparently it sticks down ok with plenty of airation, but can be removed without too much effort.. probablty a fairly high life expectancy too..
sounds good to me

A couple of months after I got my excel, the mist on the window and the damp smell started to really annoy me, so I stripped it out and re-did it before getting the windows resealed. Anyway, I needed new underlay, and went to a carpet mob where they said rubber under the carpet would harden and crack up if it got wet and stayed that way, so I got enough harefibe to do 2 cars for $10.
I haven't heard of this recycled tyre underlay, but wouldn't it make the floor uneven and squeaky? A layer of both might work well though.

:) thats how I was gonna go too, no underlay.
I was also thinking that half the water problems in the Mini floor must be mostly from those holes they have for drainage... they have the rubber plugs in them, but they deteriorate and leak. I think I'll silicone them shut good and proper.

What? Can't hear you..

My gearboxes don't whine. If yours does, it needs bearings etc.

I'll take the noise anyhow, rather than the rust that goes with sweaty rubber underlay.

I have a shed of old carpet underlay from this joint when we recarpeted. I was going to use that. It's that gold rubber stuff.

The gearbox whine jibe was a joke about barney's box......

speaking of which, it comes with the 998 doesn't it kev?

Yeah. I'll charge U extra to remove it.

Trouble with ALL rubber is it tends to make things sweat if it's humid, and if it gets damp in there, it stays damp for ages.
I'd rather use 2 layers of carpet..
