I went to Pick n Payless today to get some rear cones off one of their wrecks, but I just couldn't get the struts and cones to separate!

Even my OWN ones here at home are still stuck!

Anton has given me some advice on trying to get the front ones out (sticking a very long screwdriver through the threaded hole, then whacking it - I haven't tried this yet btw), but what about the rear ones?

Has anyone got any tips on how to get them to come apart?

And if it don't come, WD40 it, leave overnight and repeat the BFH/chisel treatment in the morning. :lol:

angle grinder - cut them up and bash the pieces out, then replace with hilos - that's what I had to do with the ones on the van when I stripped it... :shock:

Get a bit of 12mm steel rod, stick it down inside the trumpet and hit with BFH. They are not too tight usually.
If they are, apply some gentle heat to the trumpet to expand it.

Really, if they are old you should chuck the lot and fit new knuckle joints- they cost peanuts. 8)

NOTE: don't mix joints from different suppliers/manufacturers. The effective length can vary- you don't want a tall one one side and a short the other! Or, maybe you do.. :oops:

Totaly agree on the Knuckle..cheap..If they look worn you'll need to chance the cup also..as it would have desintergated also
