nice wheels Dani :)
yup, Autosol the outer rim part but you'll probably find autosol on the inner section too damn time consuming. Shiny outer with the duller inner will look great.
Failing that, yeah pay a professional, no amount of elbow grease is going to come close to what those guys can do with the right gear.

Hi Dani,

Good find! It depends on the level of bling you want on the wheels. I spend all of Australia day and most of the weekend stripping back already painted wheels with paint stripper, elbow grease and steel whool. I then used wet dry starting around the 200 mark and ending at 800 on the outer rim which came up really nice (considering it was REALLY crappy before).

I then prime etched the centre twice and did 3 coats of colour over the top. If you are careful they do come up really good for a fraction of the price. I don't plan to show my car or anything so your priorities may be different. $50 a wheel is too pricey for me

Porous wheels?? are you serious?? :?

Dani, go through the phone book and look for a general metal polisher, NOT A PLACE THE SPECIALIZES IN WHEEL RESTORATIONS. Ring them or better still go and see them about it (where a singlet top if needed, no offence to you or your dad) They are heaps cheaper and generally do a better job. I've found a guy here (Sydney) that does the rim of contessa's for $20 each and the end result is fantastic.

The pictures don't do it justice. This was before the outer edge polishing. I have taped em up again so I can put on the clear coat...
