oh, and this is what happens if you hit a few bumps hard with a rooted trumpet

Image

on that note.. what i have learned from yesterdays excercise

1 ) knuckles are just lil balls with a stick on them.. resting inside a nylon cup..
2 ) the ball should come out of the nylon cup easily (do when new)
3) pair of multi grips and your friend in the shed (BFH) oh and dont forget plenty of wd40 (these speciality tools also help to remove a rooted trumpet from a perfectly rooted cone) will help you get on old rooted knuckle out

some visual aid as always

the only thing holding the ball into the socket is the weight of the car (and in my case, 40 years of crud)

Easiest way to seal that top hole is put a sheet of thin rubber under the top plate.

finaly got around to the other side last weekend..

my cone compressor arrived on friday

wound her up.. only i couldnt get enough room to get the trumpet out.. so i wound it up some more
almost there

i had to get a pole on the end of the cone copressor to keep winding

i have probably about 2mm to go to get the knuckle out

BANG!.. sonded like a gunshot as the thread let go on the cone and slammed me knuckle back into her socket.. i was furious.. pay 100 bux for a tool and i am still going to have to take the upper arm out.. so i took my anger out on the trumpet with a universal BFH.. then she came out as easy as the other side (amazing how theres enough room once the trumpets in three peices). put in my hilo (still used the cone compressor to put it in as the minispares ones dont wind in enough to get it over the knuckle without one)

so the thread on the cone was still there enough to wind her up to get it over a hilo (amazing seeing as it pulled through about 15mm of thread on the cone compressor (which is fine by the way)

also.. the cone compressor sold by karkraft doesnt have holes in it for the studs.. i figured it was designed this way as the instructions dont say anything about it either.. but i bent the bottom plate on it.. nice!

so not to all.. drill holes in it!

oh.. whacked a new knuckle in aswell.. this one had worn all the way through and was squeaking on my arm
