in NSW is there a check list that you can get from somewhere that will list the items they check over..? The cops here are so damn pedantic about driving an unregistered car ($1500 fine) that I have to tow the Mini every time to get a blue slip, which if it keeps not passing is gonna be one expensive venture..!!! :(

You get to keep the pink slip every year, which has all the items listed.
A blue slip (initial rego) is not much different, except they also check it's your car, not stolen and the numbers are legit.

I'd go to a blue slip check station (some servos or repair shops do it now, NOT RTA) and ask nicely if you can have a photocopy of the list.

I suggest stop going to the German car specialist and take it to a Mini specialist. Pistons Auto in Bayswater are excellent and so are Link Automotive in Mitcham for RWC. They wont pick any little things that are just part of having a MIni, they actually test for what the name implies, roadworthiness!

Iwannamini,
I believe the procedure is, you are allowed to drive your vehicle to get a blue slip, or indeed to a place of repair (ie if it fails). I have been told this both by the testers and the fuzz. Was a while ago, though.
To stop the constabulary getting their knickers in a knot, it is a good idea to write a `to whom it may concern' letter, stating the date and time of the trip. Sign and date it, and carry it with you on the day.

I agree they are getting pedantic. Last time I took a Mini in for a blue slip, the tester was down the road driving it to test the brakes (as they have to) and the local highway patrol dude pulled him over and tried to read him the riot act.
The tester's reaction to the cop was `I'm doing my job, why don't you go do yours, elsewhere'.. 8)

QLD's pretty much the same 850pvan. car gets checked for new rego and if you get defected. or if your rego lapses of course its treated like a new rego.

Last time i took mine to the local garage to get the saftey cert they wrote down leyland even tho the bonnet had a morris badge and so did the boot. When i took it to QLD Transport I asked them to enter it into the system as Morris and they did.. no questions asked.

Also a friend of mine recently bought a mini and some how the previous owner had it registered as a 58 (!!) which is pretty special, must be one of those time machine minis  Im pretty sure the person at the rego desk wouldnt have a word of it when he tried to explain that it couldnt have been a 58, as they didnt exist then!

Crikey.. NSW has got it easy. Mind you, the question I would be asking is - "Why were none of these faults picked up in the first roadworthy?"
Window seals are NOT a roadworthy item and should not be there.
How did they check the wondscreen demisters? Does the fan work? I agree with whoever said take it to a pommie mechanic.. that's standard. The demisters never work. An asthmatic can wheeze harder than a mini fan.

Would be funny if they're expecting demister(s) on an 850, or Deluxe,- heater was an option, and even if you got it, had no fan! Only Coopers & S's had the luxury of a demister with fan, until the coming of the Clubbie..

13secmini just put a 12V computer fan in the top of his dash rail, blowing cabin air upwards..!! Apparently that's OK...

gotta love 'em. Basic motoring at it's best.

I was thinking about using the heating/cooling unit from something like a starlet or similar small car. Any thoughts?
