G'day all,

After all the help you guys offered for fabricating the rear door pockets, could I please ask if anyone has any idea about the front pockets on wind-up window minis?
They seem simple enough, but I'm unsure of how far up the sides of the pocket they go, and if they overlap or go behind the door cards.
I'm really after only two measurements so I can be on my merry fabricating way, the height up the side of the pocket they go, and the width at the bottom of the pocket.

other than that It's a pretty simple bit of work.

Can anyone offer any guidance?

how come you're making door pockets? I'd suggest checking out a car and taking your own measurements.... I've been thinking about chopping them off when I do up my van, but they're too handy

Yeah that would be an easy option, but I don't have a lot of other original minis with the original pockets around. I could also guess their shape, I am after all fabricating them from scratch, I just wouldn't mind getting the correct measurements for authenticity.

I wouldn't take the pockets off either, they're great for bin stowage. The sliding window doors were the best though. They were perfect for storing Macdonalds bags on the way home.

The pocket / bin door trims on my clubman fitted like this:

Image

Where the black is the metal
the red is the door card
and the green is the trim in the bins

I know it's a crappy picture drawn by a two year old but.....

The bump half way up the door pockets seems useful for holding the door trims down and in on the other side the bin's trim fold down and along side the door cards as shown.

Ok another this might be the pattern of the front part of the drivers side bin

Hope this is of some help although I doubt it

I have mine off at the moment due to fixing some rust under and behind. I will take some measurements for you.

Where abouts in Sydney are you. I may loan one to you to take some measurements..

Thanks Fuzzy for the pictures, that's about all I needed. I was wondering how they fitted with the bump near the top of the pocket. The second picture was equally handy.

Simple: That's a gracious offer and thank you, but to save everyone any trouble all I need now is the height up the side and the width accross the bottom. The rest should be quite easy to work out.

Once I've finished the pockets I'll post a picture of the front and rear patterns for future use. They really are a doddle to manufacture once you've got the correct shape.

Thanks

Mick

Sorry I don't have any measurements the mini is not here at the moment (8 hrs away) :(
I am not certain about the second picture it is only from memory.

Um is it possible to measure inside the bin and cut it out maybe a bit large and then trim as neciscary. Not real precise I know but....
Some times the trim as required method makes the trim fit better than the original article anyway :D

Glad it helped

EDIT:
Use quickgrip when covering them it works well and you can buy it for about 1/2 the price from building supplies wholesalers not KMart or hardware stores

Oh and the door cards are better made out of thin plywood(stiff and waterproof) or masonite(stiff and not so waterproof) but thin ply is better (3mm I think)
The waterproof bit is incase as some point your window seals are not so good and the water goes down the inside of the door and into the pockets

I like the flexibility that the standard door card material from upholstery suppliers offer, and the are pretty easy to cut as well. I've sealed the back of the cards with clear coat, I believe that it should be sufficient to add a couple of years to their life.

Then where do you keep your Macdonalds on the way home?

Those paper bags slide around in the parcel tray..
