Ok have a 998 seems pretty stock. Has one of those conjoined exhaust/carby manifolds. Now when i dismantled it i expected to have it done in a weekend (yes i am dumb). Had to replace valves which have finally just come into my budget and was done today. Ok need to re-attach the carby to manifold and i have a steel plate for cables etc you know the one. Now just wondering does that go the manifold side of the big rubber joiner block thingy or the carby side.

not a bad question.......you should have taken a few piccies before you took it appart....

Maybe it is shown in a manual...I have about 5 at home and can check tonight, unless someone knows today for sure.

ive got one or tow of those floating along the cables somewhere for the choke and throttle cables

they attach to the driver side rocker cover nut
big hole for the big nut
two holes for the two cables

ok i just had a reread of your post and you dont really describe the thing clearly, can you elaborate?

maybe you could tell us what size carby you are running
and take some pics

unfortunately cant take pics.
Ok quick run down on the metal bit. It has a couple of holes for accellerator/choke (they are of a size that only the cable and not the sleeve can pass through).
It also has what appears to be a bolt for the air flter and one thing i do remember is it has a hole at bottom for a return spring. just need to know which side of the spacer it goes.

this is the elongated L(kinda) shaped plate that points downwards
the lowest point on it (for the end of the return spring) goes on the same side as where the throttle cable goes into its clamp

reinstallation is a reversal of removal

I had a look at my old one last night...... carb, then plate, then spacer, than manifold.
