Hi all,

I've got some hydro bags I've been cleaning out but what's the difference between them all?
They're all deluxe type bags but what's the difference between 21A2008 and 21A1477.
Are they interchangeable?

21A1477 is front & rear, early Deluxe. From parts list HYL3262 (Feb 65). Also from PUB1056M.
From car # 16757 they were AYA4090 front & rear.
However the lists seem to indicate this was just a part number change (AYA ones were Aust made).

I have no listing for 21A2008.

OK. Thanks Doc.

I found another bag stamped with 21A1804 on the side of it but the top of the bag had 21A1477 on the rubber top.

Looks like bags are stamped with 3 digits followed by the part number then the year, eg: 127 21A1804 67.
I'd add a photo but it doesn't turn out to well as the stamps aren't really good and the bags have a bit of rust on them.

You can see a small part of the yellow band on some of them so I am presuming they are deluxe/matic.

The bag on the left has a steel section fitted to the bottom. And the
one on the right is Alloy, I have seen both types fitted to the one car over the Years
without any apparent problems, 21A2008 displacer is a standard type displacer
that was fitted front and rear, In the end that was the only one You could Buy

Just one more thing that shows inconsistency in production
If you measure the two different bells in the bottom of the hydro bag
The steel one on the left is about a 1/4 inch shorter in height to the alloy one .
I have mainly found these steel ones in the cooper s bags
21a2012 1 x silver band - fronts
21a2014 2 x silver band - backs

The 21A1804 rings a bell. (edit: ignore this, its in error)

Its the later Cooper S/GT displacer I believe. It has a smaller orrifice or something somewhere in its design to increase dampening.

Don't read the part number on the top either. Its moulded into the rubber but only confuses when you see the metal stamping in the side of the displacer.

My 2 lists for Cooper S show, in chronological order:
From HYL3262 parts list (1965):
C-21A1705 front
21A1811 front
21A1872 front
C-21A1705 rear
21A1811 rear
21A1874 rear
21A1804 is DELUXE in this list. Not Cooper S.

From PUB1056M (early 70s?):
21A2010 front
AYG4113 front
21A2010 rear
21A2014 rear.

Can I comment on/add to the good Doc's list above?
21A1477 is listed as early Cooper F & R (this must have been the first displacers made since the number is embossed in the rubber on every displacer I've ever seen,
regardless of actual part No. and application)
21A1804 later Cooper and rated as "normal stiffness" (coloured orange); 21A2008 (Green) is a later normal stiffness bag as used on Aussie DeLuxe and Mini K- both are F & R
Jubblies' yellow displacer is a "rally" stiffness - either 21A1693 (F) or 21A1705 (F & R)
I have 1 of these bags with part No.stencilled onto casing in yellow & paint on hose, but not stamped onto casing. It also came with a strut that was 150 thou longer than standard for increased height.
Slacko's numbers for late Cooper S is correct i.e.. 21A2012 (F) & 212A2014 (R).
There are many more numbers used for Special Tuning applications...

I hope it wasn't my post that has upset Slacko.
By the size of his BOLD CAPITALS, someone has.
I meant to say that 21A1804 was an early displacer used in Coopers (not Ss)
and other cars at that period.
I also need to correct my above post that Ss used 21A2014 (rear) NOT 212A2014.
This afternoon I found a displacer with 21A2014 stencilled in silver AND stamped on the casing.
I hadn't seen a late bag with stencilled numbers. There you go then....

I am sure Bill B it was not You that may have upset Slacko, In fact what You say
Re 21A1804 is exactly the Point I believe Slacko was trying to Make.
