yeah me and my old man use this stuff on our other cars, it does the trick. the stuff we use is "Kitten: Wheel Cleaner"... imaginative name i know. but u can get it from woolies or repco and places like that.
you get a better result if you use this and then when its dry giv it a once over with a light soft cloth, comes up as good as gold.
hope this helps
Gotta watch this stuff around paints, it is pretty good at lifting them as well. Don't use it on enameled steel wheels either.
Plexus is a product I use on my Motorcycle insted of washing it. It's like a polish except you simply spray it on and wipe it off straight away. It cleans the bike and leaves it with a super slippery teflon like finish. Water won't stick to it and dust is less liekly to settle if it can blow away. It works well under the bonnet and is used by car detailers when they want to sell a car as it works on metal, plastic rubber and glass/plexiglass.
It's found in motorbike shops.
I'm told Mr Sheen works well too, I haven't tried it yet but I've had good reports.
