Ok, made a decision today to bring Slidey back home (less engine), pay the mechanic for his efforts up until now and get the broken engine back home......

And teach myself how to do a full rebuild...... will be same spec (1310) but a little stronger interms of Cam, Pistons, Rockers and all the other usual stuff.......

I won't be doing it alone, Low 'N' Blown will be assisting me as well as another close friend who is a mechanic..... failing that my fathers mechanic is about 400m down the road.........

I'm a little in the dark as to what parts to select for the build (Pistons, Cam etc) so i'm asking for a little information as to what to look for in selecting the right parts.........

It will be a long road (6 months at least) but at least i will learn a lot regarding the mechanical side of the mini, and it will be my work.......

Wish me Luck

Good luck, the saying is true, if you want something done right do it yourself 8) Also think of all those $$$ you're going to save in the future with the skills you'll develop :)

best of luck mate!!

I have also mad the decision today to build a motor. I have all vivians
old bits under the house and will take the blocks i have to GR to see
if anyhting is savable. it is only 998cc, but i just wanna make me own engine!!
im even going to do the gearbox  (but i wont have a car to put it
in so it will just be a slow "just for fun" thing)

Steve, I had never built an engine before, untill my 1115cc powerhouse in JAM 8)

With the right advice, it's not that hard! I feel so proud driving JAM, because I built it! When that engine fires up it's music to my ears.

Don't be scared, don't skimp out on quality parts, right down to your nuts, bolts and gaskets, and enjoy it!

Good luck mate!
