that is why i do all the work on my car. they now have your permission to change the brake switch and you only have their word that it is broken to go on. For all you know they could just be drumming up extra business (i am not trying to accuse them of anything, but i have seen and heard plenty of bad things about mechanics)

plus i just don't trust anyone else to do anything on my car without stuffing it up :)

if your brake lights wher working before you dropped the car off and they are doing electrical work then they f'd up.
the amount of non mini specialist's that i have been to always say the same thing..... "oh mate its an old car, you cant find any parts for these old things anymore, it'll cost you a fortune"
to which i reply, " mini's stopped production in 2001, and have the most amount of aftermarket and genuine parts of any other car in the world......."
end rant :D

My mate is an auto electrician and i know from past experience (being in his workshop and whatching how he operates) if he or his boys stuff something up then he fixes it at his cost.

Hydraulic brake switch is very very easy to replace ur self. If it has failed then i highly doubt that they would of caused it to fail.

This happened to me (not brake switch but annoyingness) I took my car to a so-called mini place north of adelaide who apparantly had started doing from 69 and haven't stopped for engine tuning. They took it that I wanted a written inspection of my car which turned out to be about $500 in labour!?!?! I'm in year 11 I can't afford that kind of crap! And total bill came to 1200 bucks, they had it for a few weeks and 'stole' one of my large size clutch cylinders (they were bleeding my brakes, which I did ask them too, so I partly blame myslef for this,) They needed a new cylinder, I gave them a good second hand one they said they wanted to overhaul it for 300 bucks!, Luckily I called and asked what was happening, so I bought a new cooper s brake cylinder for 120. Basically after lots of money etc. I have come to the conclusion that the certain place in gawler don't care and just want money. In fact the mechanic had a go at me when we left for bringing it in saying he's to good for that kind of work...... Oh well, now I do all my work, even if it takes ages to figure it out!

Very simple to undo a connector though and make it sound worse.

It's not in at Habib & Co Auto Electrics is it?? :)
