An ex-race car (obviously with log book proof, i'd imagine) with a spare racing engine.

Probably worth about 30 grand. I was reading an article alst year about ex-race cars getting huge money due to being eligible for certain ex-period race catagories, particularly in the UK. As some of the more prestigious hillclimb and track events in the UK.

In the UK and the US cars with big race history are fetching huge prices, even the minis. The question is whether the Aus. market is catching up (and whether having been raced by Makinen at Spa is comparable to being raced by Gaulson (or some other Aussie driver) at the Bathurts 1000). In any case, put in perspective $50k is 20 thousand pounds and works minis with history have been nudging 100k pounds in the UK.

Obviously provenance; the ability to prove where tha car was raced and by whom is the most important thing. Oh and the fact that it has been converted back for the road is a huge problem coz its now missing that race pattina and authentic feeling that real collectors seek and if bought because of its racing history the buyer will spend years and more money hunting down original race parts and decals.

that's the problem with ebay's stupid `hidden bidder' system that just gives numbers, not identities. provides free rein to idiots to bugga the whole thing up, without being noticed until too late.

cheers!
