Hi guys,

I think this came up once before.... Well knind of came up...

I have been chatting with a windscreen manufacture about getting some heated windscreens made up, not the European style ones that are designed to flash melt ice, but just clear the fog on cold mornings. The guy who I've been speaking with has done them for the V8 super cars and a few rally cars.

Sooo,, I'll be needing 4 of them (for a start), but the minimum I can get made is 10. I don't have a price yet. Basically I'm just trying to work out if there is any kind of call for them, if not I'll get all 10 and just sit on them or porn them off on ebay or something. Otherwise I might get more than 10 made and start selling them or something.

What do you reckon?

If you could get one,, would you?

I haven't had a good look at my screen but if I need a new one come registration I would be interested - then if I get a heated screen I won't need to piss fart around getting a heater to demist the screen. - More interested than not in that case - depending on price

Also have 2 Mokes lined up for next projects mark me as a possible there as well.

What does a new windscreen cost and how much are you proposing to get the heated ones for?

Once I have a feel for the costs I can make a decision.... :D

Yeah fare enough,

I have looked into getting them from the UK and it was $400 per windscreen just for freight, plus the cost of the screen on top of that!!!

So I started making a few calls. I managed to find only 1 place that would do them.. I don't have a quote yet but they will do no less than 10 windscreens.

For it to be worth while in my opinion, it would have to be cheaper than getting them imported.

If I get an estimate price based on a purchase of 10 screens and a price for 20 screens, would more people be interested in putting their hand up?

My question intially was to find out if people like the idea of a heated screen,, and then try and order enough to get the price down as far as possible.

Good question,,

If you just need them for your rear window(s), call your local auto glazier, most of them can fit a demister to your existing window.

The ones I'm looking at for the front are completely transparent, no lines... so for the rear this set up isn't 100% needed.

How many amps do they pull? :? Would a generator keep up? (or a stock alternator at idle?)

When I rented a Ford Focus in England I found that I could stall the motor when it was idling just by turning on both the front and rear window demisters at the same time! The current pull was that much!
But this was with a full on melt the snow in 30 seconds type of screen!

Morris, I don't have an answer for you, but I'll get one. As far as I know they pull no more amps than a normal rear demisters (aussie style for fog not ice). But I will get a Figure for you, while i'm getting a price estimate

If they're too hot (too many amps) you could turn it down by putting a resistor in the circuit.....unless Mick has some complicated brain storming way of doing it..................
