Hi all. Does anyone know the weight of a bare 1275 block please? If you have one handy can you chuck it on the bathroom scales (without the missus finding out! :lol: ) and let me know. Cheers.

Thanks GT. 22kg is lighter than I thought. Around 30kg would have been my guess.

I weighed a couple of blocks a while ago, with a Salter digital scale, just so I knew how much weight I was crushing the discs in my spine with every time I lifted one!

998/1100 31.4kg
Mk 1 S 28.9kg
1275 A+ 33.6kg

These were hot tanked, unmachined blocks with only the caps fitted.

1275 Head 13.4kg
998 Crank 10.3kg
1275 A+ Crank 12kg

4kg saving - another reason you like S blocks for race cars!

side covers v's ribs would be a reason for the 1275's, and all that extra unnecessary meat between the cylinders for the littlies

I wonder what the thick flange on a MK2 S block weighs over a MK1...

I didn't see anything wrong with your post. Common sense says 22kg is not correct for an A series block!

Maybe the ones with 4.5" alloy wheels had the 22kg blocks?
