Hi guys, i need to know a fairly simple question.
Does the centre point between the two drivers seat mounts (on the floor crossmember) Line up with the steering column?
Do those of you who run non-standard seats use the same mounting points on the crossmember?

Thanks in advance

The answer according to my car is no. The steering is definitely offset to the left of the seat

You can just see the seat mounts at the bottom of the photo and the steering column at the top. The steering column lines up almost with the adjustment lever on the left

Wouldn't the seat mounting bolt holes give you the right location?

It might alter depending on the seats you put in though. Perhaps you need to select the seats you will use and go from there.

I can give some measurements taken from the inner sill using a tape measure and a plumb bob...

Centre of the steering wheel = 350mm from the inner sill.

The column is offset to the seat, I will just duck out and take some in relation to the seat mounts...

Thanks guys.

See i need it for my rollcage. They want to know the seating position so they can place the harness eyelets directly behind the seats.
I have heard the steering column lines up with the centre of the seats and then others saying it doesnt (thanks to you guys its confirmed it doesnt line up), then with non-standard seats it looks like some people run their seats offset from normal to line up with the steering wheel.

I havent bought any seats yet, and hadn't thought of them until the question was asked yesterday. I dont even know where people go to try/buy car seats, not the foggiest!

So i am unsure what measurement to give AGI. If everyone just runs their seats in the standard position then thats great, but, if its a well known idea to run seats with rollcages and harnesses more inwards/inline with the steering then i'd give them the steering centreline.

In short, Damn minis and their lack of width!!

Thats awesome Morris1100!

Thanks for that. So much easier if you have a bodyshell!
So the steering column is 80mm closer to the left seat mount....

I really appreciate your efforts guys. Thank you very much

Yep, and remember the column is also on a slight angle.

If the column was centred to the seat it would be on a greater angle and you would need a longer right arm.

If you guys think a Mini seat is offset heaps, go sit in a Hillman Imp (if you can find one!).

LC/LJ Torana has the pedals offset to the right and the column offset to the left. You don't notice when you are flat out in a forest at night.
