Interesting that the last 94 MK1 Cooper S's didn't have an ID plate.

Yes, that and the introduction of the four-speed gearbox on 48 late Mark 1 Cooper S's.

That's what it says, and I've no reason to doubt it happened in practice. Always happy to see any evidence to the contrary regarding these factory documents. :)

Are you sure listing 152 has the Body Number 1298?

Nice looking car. Does the radiator shroud have the M206 offset next to the 1298?

I would be interested to see a photo of the shroud or have the owner recheck the last number is not a 3 or 6.

There are no photos or owner details so no way to check unless the owner sees this. Do you have some information of interest?

Surely there aren't two cars with the same build code. I take it that yours has M206 1298.

That is my concern.
This is why I am not a big supporter of the registers. Some of the numbers on the register are collected without clarification and the owners approval/knowledge.
I have owned my cooper s for 15+ years. I purchased it in 2000 as a barn find, in unmolested condition last registered 1988. I restored it in 2000. The car has been verified by many highly regarded mini experts over the past 15 years.
Just recently this cars body number has come up on the Cooper S Mark 1 register on another cars listing. I am happy to let whoever deems, check out the authenticity of my cars radiator shroud body number and M206 stamping.
What has always concerned me about the registers are, if I was to sell my car (which I am not) anybody can jump on the Ausmini site and look on the registers. They look on registers listings to verify the numbers off the car they are looking at purchasing. They see another car with the same body number - (as most cars listed don't have body number recorded). They believe that because the listing is on the internet its gospel - I know there is a clear disclaimer. The car they are looking at purchasing gets labelled a fake, or it puts doubt in some peoples eyes about its authenticity.
Another car that I own that someone has put on the register has the wrong paint colour listed.

I appreciate the great work the guys have been doing trying to establish a register. The concept to identify and preserve the authenticity of these great cars. I am just notating a shortfall with the register.

Should be ok as long as they aren't using the same car number. M206 body numbers should be painted over and not used for rego. Saying that - i would want to see the body codes if buying an S. Now i know of a few cars getting around with the same car number. Because these cars are registered in different states there are no issues getting them registered. I wonder what happens when one of these cars moves into the same state as the other.

I don't want any cloud over the authenticity of my car.
