So I took the family out for a spin in the Mini this morning, ran great and stopped for about half an hour..
Got back in and she won't start..
Turn the key and Nothing!
No click, no lights, absolutely nothing!!!
Completely dead!!!!

Third time this week..
Fully charged battery went in yesterday.
New alternator a few weeks ago.

Maybe it's the ignition, but I'm scratching my head.

Anyone else experienced this?

Turn headlights on and turn the key. If the lights dim bad/go out, you have a bad connection somewhere on the battery cables.
Or, a dead cell in your new battery.

Thanks for the tips!
I'll try in the morning giving the battery terminals a good clean and tighten.
Can't test with the lights on as it's completely dead.. No lights!

When it chucks a wobbly and goes dead. Grab your test light, preferably not led one, and starting from battery test :

Battery positive to negative on connectors, not posts.
Battery positive to good earth, (subframe bolt?)
Then go to positive terminal on solinoid toearth (motor)
Then terminals on fuse box (only one fuse should be live) this is lights etc.
You should have found something by this stage but if not check powrr to back of ignition switch.

Could be worth checking harness as some cars get chopped and changed through their lives. Patches on patches, bodgy connectors and poorly crimped wires.

Thanks Peterb...
I'll grab a test light tomorrow.

Just cleaned the terminals and leads and tightened them up.
Still nothing.

The wiring plug under the ignition has always been a bit suspect but its never done this.

Alternator not charging your battery?

Last week this happened to me, the battery was fully charged but would not turn over the starter or even power the interior lights. New battery fixed that.

Is your battery tied down properly in the boot? They don't like being shaken around, particularly if you have dry suspension *bounce bounce*

I got a new alternator a few weeks ago because it had been overcharging the battery.
Something is obviously going very pear shaped.

you're not around the corner from O'Farrell St are you? I could have had a fiddle...

I was there on Saturday night... my mate who I was staying with showed me the Camino Gold Mini K that lives around the corner from his house. I nearly parked my Camino Gold S next to it and took a photo but had to get going
