Daniel, I can vouch for the OFR'S (Old Fart Racers!! ) I have done a few (3 I think) British race days, and the on-track behaviour is exempolary (sp).

Fact is, we are all amateurs and if you bend it, you mend it!! :P

So as you say, it (the field) quickly sorts itself out.

I must admit, I would be tempted to put a 998 together for my hillclimb car and have a go, I'm sure the racing would be closer and SO MUCH FUN!

What car were you going to use? obviously not the turbo! 8) 8)

Hi Graham,

I am building a 1098 +.060" atm that I was originally going stick in another shell I've got and go racing. Trouble is that the shell requires some $$ to get some paint on etc and a potential buyer of the 1098 (once it's built).

The turbo engine cannot do more than 3 laps of wakefield without a cool-down lap (I can go for 20 minutes easy with the 3:1 ratio of speed/snails pace) but I am hoping to fix this problem by adding some ducting to the engine bay and a small heater core.

I will keep my options open till the next round where hopefully I should have something sorted, renovating my house is taking most of my spare cash/time atm.

The main thing is I think a small block road car with decent tyres will actually be quite competitive with the bigger engined minis.

Daniel

Do I understand correctly that you only need a AASA club licence to circuit race at Wakefield? I would have thought you would need a national licence. I have'nt had a CAMS comp licence for 16 years and am hoping to compete at the last round this year

Ordinary Wakefield licence is all thats required I think.

Next meeting is on the 25th June 07. I suggest you all get your commodore eating, ricer equipped minis down/up/across to Wakefield.

Who is up for a pre race drive/no speed limit day?

Daniel

i'm very much in to the idea but i have the same problem as meeni i have a 1293. could there be a 3 or even 2 classes to as in less than 998/1100 and from 1100 to 1400. this would be my road car also so i would not be to keen on pulling out my 1293 to put in a 998. but if the series takes off and there is no another option i will build a 998 just so i can entre.

Hi Stuart,

You haven't read my last few posts so I'll update again. The super mini series run by MRA is hosting the event/s as per www.miniracingaustralia.com rules. The 1000cc cars will be running in the same race as the others. To have a seperate cc for the 1000's there would need to be a few more entrants (more than zero atm)

After my visit to the first event this year (2 weeks ago) I can tell you that my previous concerns have been removed, a 998/1100 could potentially be running with the big block cars due to the amateur nature of the event.

Additionally, you won't need to worry about being lapped by the Honi's (Honda powered ahem minis) if you are doing say 1:20 as the longest race is only 8 laps.

If you have a 998, 1098, 1293, 1360,1400, turbo, supercharged, crossflow or whatever A series you can enter. You can win the championship as it's based on your category and the Honis always break down anyway.

I think we should maybe start another thread just on potential MRA starters as it's important that ausmini drivers get on board to keep it going. It's cheap as and I will feel much safer racing with these guys then those idiots that slow me down in their R33's on the no speed limit days.

Regards

Daniel

It's best to click on the relevant links in the MRA website regarding the rules. I could just cut and paste but I may miss something important.

As a guide though, for road registerable cars (ie, doesn't have rego but obviously could be rego'd) you need at least a half-cage, race suit, race boots, helmet, fire extinguisher etc. Most of the items regarding safety/fire related that you wear can be s/hand/borrowed so long as they are in good condition (no tears etc).

There are plenty of club members that don't use their gear any more so ask around, even if it's only one event and you decide it's not for you it's not much cost, and you would be able to sell stuff easily if req'd. We could organise a group buy from a roll cage manufacturer if a list of us gets going.

Regards

Daniel
