Well said Speedy - my sentiments exactly only didn't know how to say it with being rude.

Sir, your comments reflect badly on yourself and those you represent.

Trolling is against the forum rules, and it would be better if you kept your venom to yourself.

I am not "Trolling" and i am not trying to cause another long winded argument. (theres enough people on here that do that allready) I just cant see why everybody thinks GR is the best there is. I have been in the Mini industry for nearly 20 years now and its only since i started looking at this forum that i have read so much about GR. I have nothing against him or his business personally I just cant understand why people can be so one eyed when it comes to a mini related business. I have built plently of very quick race engines and I too am a qualified engine reconditioner AND i have worked with the best Mini business pioneers here in Victoria. I am not looking for peoples engine jobs, i just want people to understand that there are other very qualified mini mechanics/workshops out there.

Well, you can stay down there with your friends, and we'll stay up here with GR.
So, what HP at the crank on an engine dyno have you got from a 5 port NA 1.3L A series then.

I know that's BS, the ricers all use chassis dynos.
I'll shut up now.

I dunno about cams, and the thread should be split....

but my 2 cents is that the information on GR equipment is current, the parts are affordable, and there are plenty of people available to offer their 2cents on how they well they work.

Spark plug leads...well if I could get away with it they would be copper wire, I don't believe in the mumbo-jumbo salesmanship put into 5 dollar parts to convince you that you should pay heaps more....but for camshafts, I'm happy to hear that they work well, are mildly sporty and available. I won't be dynoing my engine, but nor will I be flipping camshafts to compare the alternatives. I'm not voting for one crowd or another, but am happy to go with a product that works well and has a good reputation.

GR has the biggest waving flag in the mini community at the moment, and there's heaps of positive feedback, and there is a recognisable face behind the product ..so that guided my choice.

It would seem to me, as a casual observer, that anyone of the likes of GR who publishes extensive articles in the public domain free of charge (eg his1098 mod guide) and is generous enough to share his obvious extensive knowledge for the benefit of others, must be alright.

you're right, and something great is that a lot of them know each other and respect each other's work - so we all win

For example these days Lindsay Siebler and Graham Russell are working together - must be some wild ideas buzzing around

It's precisely the sentiment of your point of view (although not offensive or targetted or derogratry) that is the real essence of why many of us who know him well think so highly of the man. He would not speak badly of anybody else or doubt anyone else's abilities. He is very much a humble, generous and knowlegeable guy. The reason why so many people sing his praises is because he is so genuine.

I can see how it would seem that Ausmini are very pro-Graham, and you know what? I don't blame them! Alot of people here who have met Graham do realise what kind of a person he is and I am not surprised that many people are speak highly of him from around the world such as Kieth Calver who visits once a year to trade secrets with the man. Besides they can't be all wrong now can they? You would feel the same way too if you meet him I am sure.

I am sure you are very good at what you do, I really mean that with sincerity. It's not rocket science, but one can get better than good at certain things. I will can start and go on all day about Graham's experience and expertise but just from your view of Engine Dynos alone already tells me a lot of things about you. That's all I have to say about you as I don't make it a habit of talking about people I don't know. I suggest you take a leaf out of my book...

BACK ON TOPIC The leads are great. I have tried all manner of off the shelf leads and these have by far out performed them. No more HP gain, just good connection which means a cleaner ignition and spark. I am more than sure that you can get these from any custom made ignition lead business. LETS GET ONE THING STRAIGHT: Graham is promoting them, not selling them directly. I have met the guy that does them, nice bloke, runs his own business making custom leads. What IS on offer here is a reasonably cheap solution for high performance custom leads. Speak to the dude that does them, he cut up a topgun, a bosch one and one of his custom leads to show me inside. Needless to say I am sold.

It's not just the leads the bloke sells (not Graham, the lead guy, forgot his name), if you have a chat, you learn a heap about leads and ignition. I talked to him for well over 40 mins and learnt a lot of good useful, practical tips about leads and how to get the best out of them. Sounds dumb but chat to me sometime, I will let you in on it.
