We have bought a VZ commodore V6 last year and I'm looking at getting a tow bar kit for it. Would the 1600kg tow kit be sufficient to tow a mini and trailer? I'm guessing the 1200kg might not cut it?

The biggest benefit of the uprated tow bars is they come with an additional transmission cooler. It depends if you tow in hot conditions or on hills but this is an absolute must if you want to maintain the health of the auto gearbox. When I drive back from the coast I see lots cars pulled over on the side of the road with boiled transmissions, and often they only have quite small boats behind them.

The factory 2100kg kit came with a transmission cooler and a bunch of additional bracing to install. Seems that most of the aftermarket kits sold now don't include the cooler..

I ended up with the 1600kg Hayman Reese kit, which has the removable hitch. I might still look into the trans coolers, PWR do a kit reasonably cheaply. I'm not really intending to tow a car trailer, just thought I'd give myself the option just in case..
