p.s. My girlfriend thinks im going crazy, whenever she is around all she hears about is 'ausmini' and is stuck looking at minis in the 'for sale' section of this site.... I love it!

Get your girlfriend to join up as well , she'll at least get a chance to talk to you then ... You could be like a certain other couple here who sit at diferent computers in the house and talk (argue I think would be a better term , it was Bathurst that was the most memorable wasn't it ???) via ausmini . It'll also give us a chance to convert her to liking mini's which will help you in the future ....

Hi Gang,

My name's Rod and I live on the Bellarine Peninsula outside Geelong. I just found this site tonight! Here's a couple of pics of our Oscar (Old Secondhand CAR). He's a '63 850 (or should I say was) and was my wife's first car back in the '70's ( I married the girl and inherited the car).

I did a bare-shell, ground-up rebuild back in the early 80's and he's done only 50,000 miles since. Specs are: 1132CC, stage 2 998 cooper head, factory 731 cam with toothed belt drive, twin SU's, extractors, 'S discs front, super minifins rear, 'S gear ratios, body deseamed, pommy Mk2 'S grille, Datsun 240Z seats. Oh and I've lowered him since these pics were taken too!

I hate to admit that he's only been driven twice this year - last time in April - SHAME-SHAME-SHAME. TroubIe is I want to pull the engine, replace all the dried-up oil seals, replace the oil-sodden clutch and then repaint and detail everything under the bonnet before he hits the road again. I just haven't got around to it I'm afraid....... I read about the Pulsar dizzy transplant. What a rippa!! I'll do that at the same time coz I'm over stuffing around with points!

Anyway hope to see you guys around some time when I extract the digit and sort Oscar out.

Cheers,
Rod.

welcome, your car sounds great and i love the colour.. i'd prefer the 850 grille though

i wouldnt bother with the pulsar dizzy, they have the wrong advance curve and need a fair bit of modifications, it would be less hassle to fit electronic ignition into your standard dizzy..

Welcome Rod and Oscar. Where abouts are you on the penninsula???

You've maybe seen me about in Ribena - purple clubby with a white roof or Poeee (our fearless leader) in his van lately.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next Geelong Social Night at Riminis in Moorabool Street - think it's on the 20th December....hmm, that's also my wife's birthday.

Hooroo

The standard Lucas Dizzy would have the wrong advance curve as well. 8)

Hey my name is richard, i'm 21 and live in Victoria. i have a blue 1978 mini panel van. it has a 1275 motor. it is still needing a lot of work as it has been painted with a paint roller by the previous owner and the interior is in pretty poor condition.

It's a small world Rod. I'm in Clifton Springs as well and yes, I have seen Ribena around. I reckon I've waved, but with me not being in a Mini you probably haven't noticed. If you see a hand go up in a blue Mazda SP20 or a black Mazda RX-8 it'll be me.

Looks like division in the ranks with the Pulsar dizzy. I reckon it'd still be worth a shot tho. I never got the Lucas dizzy remapped to suit the engine mods so, as "Morris 1100" says, it'd probably be wrong anyway. Never know the Pulsar dizzy might be more in the ball park!!

Cheers,
Rod.

Some people do not realise how that as you modify the engine you may also need to alter the curve in the dizzy.
Some people have fitted the Pulsar dizzy thinking it would be perfect and now realise that its curve is not the right one for their car.
Now some people think that sticking a standard Lucas with points in their car will be better than the Pulsar!

I have had a Pulsar dizzy in my car (totally standard Morris 1100) and it works much better than any of the Lucas dizzys that I have had in it. Cold starting is much better and the lack of points is a big improvement.
I fitted my dizzy on the 17/4/05 and that is the last time I have touched it! (I am running an experiment  ) How many times would a Lucas dizzy need touching in 19 months?
Of course the advance curve is wrong but how many Lucas dizzys have the right curve for the car that they are in!
