i just bought a 4pack of bosch W8DC, from supercheap.

on the back of the packaging it says to change the gap on the plugs to .7mm from .8mm

do i have to do this? :( if i do what tool will i need to accomplish this slightest change?

thanks alot

kitchen bench & feeler gauges

gently tap the end of the spark plug on your kitchen bench (or other unblemished wooden home surface) & check the gap with your feeler gauge.
Gauge should just fit - not "wege it in" tight but touching both contacts.
They are only a few bucks from SuperCrap.

You will get the hang of it after the first couple of goes :)

In this case you need to increase the gap first then do what awdmoke said, just don't bend it out too far, it's only .1 of a mm. It's all easy as, don't worry! 8)

thanks, got it first go pretty straightforward.

i also replaced the elads with new bosch ones.

when i started it up today, the temperature guage started working again. That was an awesome bonus. couldn't figure why it had stopped working.
can anyone tell me how the plugs or leads would do that?

thanks, yeah lucked out i guess.

i was wondering how you would know if the leads were connected to the correct plugs.
i know that if they are in the wrong place it could damage the engine, and i don't know for sure if they were. Because im on a budget i can't afford major problems like that.

Put something on the leads to identify them...best thing i've seen are cable ties...1 around 1...2around 2...3 around 3...4 around 4..etc...numbers don't fade like if you write on them and they last forever..

You need to rotate the engine to top dead centre on say no1 cylinder if both valves are closed then it is ready to fire (or there abouts) if you take off the distributor cap the rotor will be pointing to one of the leads this is the lead that should be firing number one cylinder, from here it is easy enough to work out the rest the firing order is 1-3-4-2 and the distributor rotates anti clockwise.

If the piston is at top dead centre on number one but one of the valves is open then you need to rotate it 360 degrees.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong :D
