I run Shell Uptimax, which is also 98 octane. I've found it to be a much of a muchness, when trying Shell Optimax, BP premium and Mobil Synergy, so I go with the Shell 4c off with a coles docket.

The inline kits are about $60, and come with a big bottle of Flashlube. They also have a lifetime warrenty on the kits.

LRP burns dirty, you get a build up of this red crap. My car runs heaps better on premium, I will never go back!

I went to a flashlube info night at my dads car club (western district historic vehicle club), and they gave everyone a free sample kit. It contained a 50ml bottle, and a whole lotta info about it. At the time, I had just started using premium, but was using valvemaster (which aint as good). The 50ml bottles are marked in 10ml intervals, so it's easy to work out how much ya put in. I carry 2 50ml bottles in the car, then when they finnish, I fill them up from the big litre bottle. Bit easyer than your 7.5ml in the bottle cap, drmini!

Good luck with your `fuel star'- the jury is still out on those things...

There was a test in UK a while back where they fitted a similar thing to a stock 998 with a reconditioned head. They drove it around a track flat out for 500 miles. The deal was if there was any head damage the car would get a new head fitted afterwards.

They stripped it down after 500 miles, guess what the head was like..

I'm not gonna guess, but I was wondering if this "fuel-star" is that aluminium membrabe based thing that doesnt require recharge and just sits in your fuel line hapily adding metal to the fuel by corosion of the aluminium - or something like that (its 5am and Ijust worked in the bar for 13 hours so go easy on me).

Coz my mechanic just recomended it to me saying that the additive stuff is pretty useless. Quotes at around $160.

I've run Flashlube additive for 40,000 miles. Last time I stripped it there was NO seat recession and all the seats were shiny. And, the plugs stay clean.

I also thrash this car round Wakefield Park on track days, revving it to 7500. No problems.

See http://carsandfuels.homestead.com/theysay.html for a bit more info and responses from the oil companies. 8)

Sorry, just realised that fuel star is a catalytic converter.

mike the fuel star is not a catylitic converter (now know as a cat)
it may have a catilist in it but a cat is on the exhaust side and why cos straight ulp fumes are much more dangerouse than leaded fumes the cat has a coating inside to take away the nasty's that is why you get the rotten egg smell after thrashing your ulp car the cat is like a honey combe lotsa little pockets inside
makka

I didnt mean a "catalytic converter" as in a particular mini polution preventing part (which I dont have my girl being a round nose) but a catalytic converter in general. From what I gather if fuel star has got a catalyst in it and and it creates a catalytic reaction with the passing fuel it is a catalytic converter (for the fuel and not for the exshaust fumes).

Sorry for being a dickhead and insisting on such an insignificant point.
