My home made one (using Mini clutch MC) cost me exactly A$0.00.

There's instructions on this site http://www.austinamericausa.com/
how to make one from a grease gun. See under technical.

Here is the details I got from Liquid Levers in the UK, regarding their Australian Agent for new Hydro pumps:

Dear Matthew
My thanks for your enquiry.
Our Suspension Pumps are all suitable for use with the Mini, and are
distributed in Australia by:
Spares Direct (part of Pickard's of Melbourne)
Contact Trevor Pickard on [email protected]
Phone 03 9428 9655

Price was around 1200 for pump only and 1800 for pump with evacuation also.

I made my own!

Cheers

Whats an evacuation..??

How do I let down one side of the hydro to balance the car up..> It is a matter of sticking a screw driver into the nozzle like you would the valve of a tyre..??? I dont want to damage it, but I gotta let down one side for rego pretty soon (ie tonight)

Evacuating the system means getting all the air out  if it has air in it it won't work as well. You can let the Hydro fluid out just like you would with air in a tyre

Hi Doc,

I looked at the instructions, and thinking about it (Holding a grease gun upside down while pumping it), it sounds a little unwieldy. I assume yours has a larger reservoir and a long enough line to make it easy to pump the fluid.

Any chance of a pic of yours? It would seem to be a fairly easy tool to make and handy to have. Or I could cannabilise an old grease gun and build something a bit more substantial.

Here's mine- a Mini clutch MC on a Fiat 124S pedal box. RHS tube lever is 3ft long to build pressure.

To let each side down, you take the metal valve cap off, and use the top of it (it's domed) to push the pin of the valve in. Watch your eyes, and note- it drops pretty fast.

The hoses are Mini front ones... 8)
Pipe bit & flare nipple in the middle is so I can loosen the top hose and screw it onto the valve (after I pump it full of fluid). Connection fitting was made from a brass valve cap, soldered into a brass fitting using a blowtorch.
Seal onto valve is the rubber ring found inside brass valve caps.

Hope this helps,

Advantage of using a MC not a greasegun is I can keep it topped up as I go. I check level after every 10 strokes.

I made mine from a grease gun, $25 cheapie from super cheap. It has one advantage other than being cheap, it is chromed. Gotta have the bling!!

I also got the parker 'gas chuck' fitting, it works beautifully, although it did cost me $99 aus. Got it from 'custom fluid power' can't remember the phone number sorry.

It isn't as bad as it seems to use the grease gun, the worst thing is the time it takes. Which is about 10-15 minutes each side. If I had the time I'd look into doing something with a Master cylinder, as they displace a LOT more fluid each stroke.

The other thing to do is ring around garages that used to specialise in BMC serviceing and try and puy their old suspension pumps.

Cheers
matt

My hydro pump looks just like the docs pump (it must be the best or cheapest way) Although I have a longer hose so I can pump an 1100.

When I was younger and I lived in the Blue Mountains the local hydro pump was at the Datsun dealer in Katoomba, then they were taken over by the Ford dealer (Sinclairs) and the pump went to the Ford workshop. I don't know where it went after they closed the Katoomba workshop.

In Goulburn the local dealership closed down long ago and the hydro pump and all the special tools are with a retired mechanic from the dealership. He will pump up a car if you bring your own fluid.

There is a hydro pump at Springwood in the Blue Mountains at Allan's Wheel Alignments. He is a top bloke that knows minis.
