Plus you can only do it for the front wheels. Plus, you'd want to do it in top gear, so there's no torque - if it should fall of the stands, it will stall, not take off down the street.

A better solution would be to use a spare hub mounted in a vice and spin it by hand or rig up a drill or something to spin it - you work out the details.

Even better take em to your friendly local tyre mob during a slack period and I'm sure they'll let you use the wheel balancer 8)

It will work for all the wheels, you just have to rotate them.
We had the whole car on chassis stands plus no rims on any other wheel so the chances of it going anywhere were very slim.
Besides this is a dodgy bros tip from the stupid things we do book.
Not everyone has a spare hub let alone a vice to put it in, but you'll find that most have a car that runs.

Ba ha ha. I like it. Very Aus. I'd just gone down to buy a case of beer and when I came back my mate had started respraying my car... Thing is it happens all too often!

Oh and I love the dodgy brothers tips from the stupid things we do book... did I ever tell you about the time I resprayed my motorbike fuel tank when it was still full of fuel??

I know a guy who lost about 1cm of the end of his thumb while he was oiling the chain on his running motorbike when we were kids. You know, up on a 20ltr drum, bike in gear & running.

He was a tuff little bugger too. Not even a whimper.
