:P
I have no idea
about anything
I did ask the guy to write down the stuff, and he did, except i forgot what all the initials were :!:

Its too hard when i go in there, and they say, right, ill do this and this and this, How am i supposed to know what i should make them do.

But anyways

i gave up on the place i got a quote for.

I went to my small town mechanics,
he said hed do it for me,
take it out and off, and have a check of it, and if theres no problems, he can do it,
He didnt say a price, he just said he'd have a look.

So its getting fixed.
hahaha
who knows what they can do, and get away with, they could do anything
cause i wouldnt have a clue.

But its going in on tuesday, and he said hed have it done by the 15th, for the mini show
so hed better stick to it

Get them to spell out the work they are going to do, ie new guides, seals, thermostat, resurface, hot tank, crack testing, valves etcetera or they will treat you like an arab donkey. That way when you get a quote from one mechanic to the next they will know what they are quoting for, and you will know what you are getting.

Don't discount Repco engineering workshops either. They ground the warped discs off of my Subaru WRX for 11 dollars a side (over the counter).

Repco is the only place I use(and i've got a freind who is a mech engineer) and it's a good price they always give me a trade price 8) probably cause i'm always greasy from working on the brick

Another good point is at our repco machine shop is if the worker stuffs up it comes out of teir own pocket  I have never had any thing stuffed up neither has the local Dr mini and he gets engines and stuff done all the time

You should've started laughing your head off as well then turn around and say "You call yourself a mechanic yet you can't fix a basic A series with SU!" then wander off lauging

Mini went in yesterday
So i call in this afternoon to see what happenig

They hadnt taken it apart yet
But had tested it
mechanic said he wasnt convinced at all that is was a head gasket or anything to do with that maybe :?:

But he'll look soon.
He reckoned there may be something wrong with the thermostat also he looked at my choke and said it was not working properly, as i knew and he said the oil is leaking from the tappet cover? and the oil cap

Hmmm
So i hope i dont get charged 5 hours work for them telling me that my choke cable is buggered and there are some oil leaks  :?
It cant really be that bad, i hope

I asked them a short time ago how much they charge an hour, they said between $25-30, which is why i figured take it to them, in the small community, whereas some of the bigger workshops Do charge $60-70 and more per hour
Quite silly really
hope i have it back soon though,
cause then i can get my cash for getting rid of the magna :P :!:

Just tell them dont worry about the choke and the Oil leak as you can handle that...just fix the problem you have mentioned to them
you dont want to waist your money

Today me find out

There is no head problem .
They found the choke part was buggered, as i knew
So it wont have a choke cable, but i can manage.

It is having a radiator flush and thermostat replace
A few heater hoses and cracked hoses replaced
And the tappet cover gasket

and that is all
will be done by wednesday - or earlier
so that is good.

they asked about when i removed the carby and exhaust
Cause they said that it needs new gaskets there, cause i didnt get any new ones or any sealant there, and i know they werent in presentable condition,
So someone needs to tell me what i need to do with this parts
Can i replace the manifold and carby gaskets myself?
It cant be hard?
But apparently it wasnt essential as yet

Also i got told there was lots(some) of wear in the Distributor shaft
And he didnt know what to do with that
He didnt know if he gets new ones? Or reconditioned, but reckoned second hand parts is the way to go< ANd he said id have more contacts than him, - you guys- anyways
So umm I did contact you
and what does this wear mean?

YAY
not so cheesecaked 8)
Also
they buggered about with the idle - mixture controls, it was running way too rich
and they improved it considerably
But obviously
It wont be too grand until it gets the new gaskets for manifold and so on?
So
Tell me if any of the things that the mechanics arent doing now< The manifold/carby gaskets, or fiddling with the distributor, can ME :D have a go at fiddling with
:!:

BUT it was fantastic to see the machine again 8)

tell me is this 25-30 an hour good??
I assume it was compared to the $66 an hour i got charged at getting my brakes and so on done
And the apparent 80 buck that the major ones charge?

Whats the 'norm' for anyone else reading this :? :P :?:

The end

$55.00 /hr is what my company usually pays.

And you can do the manifold gaskets easy!
All you need is a new manifold gasket, a combination spanner & some knuckle skin

Distributor, well I'm gonna help Matt put a Pusar dizzy in. Sounds easy enough...

IMO the dizzy timing is critical so get the dizzy seen to, do the pulsar dizzy conversion it's a good conversion and not difficult. If you can't do the conversion maybe take it to your mechanics with instructions on how to do it
