Steve I just cannot see this being a computer problem. Computers do not do things like this. I can tell you a story about a Ford that had an electrical problem from new but it would take to long. In the end it was a low tension cold solder joint from brand new and we discovered it by accident.

True, it doesn't make logical sense.
Ask Jan what her car drove like after resetting the computer...
I find that once the computer gets a code it tries to compensate for it, stuffing up the whole system.
example... MAP sensor codes... most rover's have it, fix the problem and it is still not 100% right. clear the codes, and perfect.
Definateley something to look at anyway.

Thanks for your ideas. More investigation obviously required

Get all the connections, both earth and power off the motor and using contact cleaner, clean them. Clean the earth points on the body and motor also. Even on a kettering system this is good practise. Make sure the computer connections, both earth and power are just as clean. Your problem is that you will not be able to tell if you have fixed it for some time, so you will not be able to identify the original fault unless you find something blindingly obvious. Let us know if you identify it, these problems are always interesting. It will be a good idea to get someone to fault the computer and reset it as it is almost certain by now it is seeing a fault.
