sssstew,

The flat lift up handles are the so called burst proof locks required by ADR's. Only problem is they didn't mandate burst proof hinges. So if you have a serious bingle the door lock doesn't burst open but the hinges break and the door falls off anyway.
The first type OZ wind up window doors used a different handle and lock to the sliding window doors. These had a black plastic piece at the leading edge of the handle to stop errant pedestrians ripping the door handle off. Similar to the chrome stopper piece on some UK doors.

Regards
RonR

"The Granny Hooker"

"The Schoolboy Skewer"

I like the doors, What does a good set of second hand doors go for?

The fact that things are different to UK's cars is that everything was made here in Australia.

The body stayed pretty much unchanged until our Clubman took over production in late 71. We got winding windows and a 1/4 vent in 65, where as UK still have sliding windows. When UK changed to mk2, which had different grill, rear lights and maybe doors, the body stayed the same here. When we went to Clubman, the doors stayed the same which kept the exterior hinges, other than the door handles and the who catch panel was a different shape. On the outside, the door is the same shape as the Mk1. Everything stayed the same until the Mini stopped being produced in 78.
