perhaps the delay is due to a lack of power, my gf's clubby has an LS horn, which only works properly when you're on the accelerator

Earlier Fiamm etc compressors needed a drop of oil every pancake day in the orifice provided, to lube & seal the vanes.
But my late model crappo one doesn't have this hole. Doesn't seem to bother it- delay is only a fraction of a second.

The Dixie airhorns Big willy sent me for the General Lee work quite well.
I've shortened the air lines dramatically because I mounted the pump right next to the horns. BLOODY LOUD and bloody funny. Especially when I see the local lunch van who has one with the hoses the wrong way around (you can tell because the notes play in the wrong order!!). I saw her a couple of weeks ago and she drove past me and blew her pissweak horn. I saw her setting up her van to sell some food and drove past and blew my horn - she shat!! I reckon she jumped 10 feet in the air, then looked at the car and pissed herself laughing. Well I reckon it was funny.

Ok, so I guess you had to be there :P

Got a set of ones from Autopro on Ribena. The original compressor kept shorting out though so the guy in the shop gave me another - better than what was in the kit. Really loud and instant noise - Yea, get out of my way sort of thing

I agree that you sometimes have to make your presence known in a Mini to prevent other drivers trying to muscle you out of the way. I find I generally drive a Mini much more assertively than I do any other car because of this.

For horns I picked up a set of Strobel three trumpet / big compressor air horns as fitted to the Jeepneys in the Phillipines. These are alternating, but can also be switched to a single blast. They are extremely loud. I bought these in Manila for AUD 40 and another set for my 4WD (incidentially there are some great Minis and a vibrant Mini Owners Club in the Phillipines).

Not a lot of spare room to fit them in my round nose van so the trumpets went up under the rh guard.

I have yet to fit these to my Clubman, and I doubt they'd fit a round nose. The idea is tank goes in the boot, with an airline going under the car. The solenoid is between the horns. I got the tank on Trade Me, try this guy as he's the one I bought mine from. Or try Ebay.com.au.

These are mighty loud (note the earmuffs). I mean painfully loud within 5 feet. It depends on how many psi use; I'm not sure what they're safe to, but like I said at 40psi they are awesome. You might want to consider a switch so you can use the standard one for polite use, or possibly two horn buttons.

My 850 uses twin electric horns, quite loud and the tone is nice.

One point: On a mini, with the horns under the bonnet, you're going to cop as much noise as anyone else.[/url]

Yeah, that's the setup i want... although i don't think i need a 5 gallon air tank like that though. That will fill up half my boot!

I am yet to find a local supplier for the air tank... the horns are not too hard to come by, a suitable tank is what i can't find.

Note: 5 gallons equals 18 litres. ;)

Try truck wreckers.
They are used for truck braking systems.
Come in nice small cylinders complete with drain valves & pressure relief.

I'm talking about liquid gallons (US) because i assumed that would be the unit that they used when listing specs on the product.

My horns are the standard Morris 1100 twin Lucas electric horns. :P They are loud as you would want! I blow the horn and people look for a truck!

Take two standard mini horns and adjust them till you get the right amount of Hi note/ Low note sound.
Much more instant than air and more reliable. (reliable and Lucas? 8) )

All gallons are liquid... it's a liquid measure.
Never, ever were US gallons used here or in NZ... they are US only. They just `have to be different'....
Rest of the world used/uses Imperial gallon.
