A vehicle under 4.5 Tone GMV is not a "truck" not even a light truck in SA or in NSW

Such a vehicle is regarded as just a car in both states

Do you know how a topic just gets to you and you just have to find out else you will not sleep

OK I always say don't trust my words on a screen, go read it from the authoritive source yourself so here is the summary and the references to the gov transport authorities in both states.

Licening class references for both states - Refer to;
NSW - http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/lic ... asses.html
SA - http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/licences ... ations.asp

Summery = As Stated above both states consider Steves "Twuck" to be a Car and can be driven on a car licence - even a provisional one.

Towing restriction references for both states - Refer to :

NSW
Learner drivers and learner and provisional
motorcycle riders are not allowed to tow any vehicle
or trailer.
P1 Car licence - Allowed to tow a light trailer up to 250Kg unladen weight
P2 car Licence - The above restriction is removed
reference - http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/dow ... rivers.pdf [Page 9-10]
-----------------------------------
SA
P1 - no towing restrictions specific to the Provisional licence status
P2 - no towing restrictions specific to the Provisional licence status
reference - http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/licences ... ations.asp
and http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/reg ... ermits.pdf [page 104]

But restrictions allpicable to the SA Car licence class applys eg

Any motor vehicle with a GVM not greater than 4.5 tonnes but does not include a bus, motor bike or motor trike. The motor vehicle may tow a single trailer, subject to the combination mass limits fixed under the Road Traffic Act 1961.
Minimum Driving Experience
Must be at least 161/2 years old and have held a learner?s permit for at least 6 full calendar months.
reference - http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/reg ... lasses.pdf [Page 108]

Now I can let this one drop

when i was on my L's in good ol NSW 80km speed limit no towing trailers

went to nth QLD to pick up my boat we left there the year before asked the police they said it was fine to drive whatever the speed limit was and tow a trailer

so now imagine this no displaying L plates towing a boat and doing 110kmh it was the best fun i had on my L plates all the way up past townsville and back 8)

willy in nsw it is illegal to tow a trailer on your p's no matter what state you are from as that is the regulation in nsw

As far as I know that is not the case. There is a weight limit of 250kg the last time I checked. I rang the RTA last week to enquire whether the P plater had to have the P plate on the car or on the trailer. They had to scratch their heads over that one and finally said it should be on the trailer. They did not sound to convincing so I am requesting it in writing.
