Great news, I just can't imagine a fellow mini owner doing something like that

Great news. Congratulations. When your totally original Brown Clubman hits the road sporting a new shiny paint job it will take on a new pride and mean more to you than it ever did.

When you were getting the parts out of his car did you find the screwdriver slipping? Did you need the BFH to get those pesky parts out. Man that coulda been a theraputic experience.

From a financial perspective do you think you'll come out anywhere near even after getting the insurance and getting the parts back and needing new paint etc. I realise you'll never recover your heartache and time.
I'd be interested to see if you or any of us are adequately insured.

I love a story about a man getting drunk with his mini. Brings a tear to my eye.

I look forward to seeing it on the road. :D

Great to hear you got it all back!

I think that the Mini community would love to know the name of this person, so maybe after everything has been done in regards to the court case, you could let us know?

Fair point - but unfortunately I've never actually been told his name by the police.

but you know where he lives...............

i'm very glad you got it all back mate :D good luck with the restoration

(notes on grammar - this will truly be a restoration - restoring the original parts to the car  )

Nope - agree with wolfman above - its not the mini's fault. Not that I didn't orginally think about taking a dump in his car or something ;)

Besides - the cop was helping me take the parts off and was with me the whole 3 hours it took!!

I was insured for $6k. Probably should have been more like $8 or $10!! I will lose $$ simply because I went and spent $2500 on a runabout (needed wheels to get around) and another $2000 or so on parts for my re-build. Only leaves me with 1500 for the re-spray - and as most will know that will be no-where near enough

Good to see the system working for the benefit of the victim for a change.

My last experience was my house mate getting hit and run while stopped at a set of lights.

The cops treated him very poorly, didn't give a crap, didn't want to visit the scene, he had to badger them into even taking down the report at the station. From the evidence he had, it would have been quite easy to track down the owner of the car (hey even check the hospitals), but they didn't want to know about it.

very glad you got all your stuff back, its dissapointing that a mini owner would do this to another, why do people like this own minis? why dont they go drive a frakkin commodore with all the other bogans
still pissed about my gf's v8 commodore getting stolen.. least now she has a faster car, a 1310 mini.

glad to hear its all back in your hands mate. your just lucky he's a dumb enough tool to leave the car out on his street. What a wally. Hope he gets all he deserves. You cant make your perfect car by pinching them off someone else's pride and joy. Cant wait to see it all complete with the new spray job!'

Personally I am so happy for you BC :)....

I am so glad that you got all your parts back and that you will be able to bring your Mini back up to the way she use to be.. Just a real shame that it had to happen in the first place...

Dont feel too bad about having to spend money on a runabout though.. I mean if you had a runabout in the first place it may never have happen.. I know not much consalation now.. But it is something to consider when you do get your Mini back to her former glory..

Ever since buying Granny I have thought about selling my Camry Wagon as I dont really use a car alot.. But the thing in the back of my mind which sticks with me is.. Would I really like to be driving Granny around when I do need to get around? And the answer is NO.. So this is why I still hang onto the Wagon for. Because while Granny is in the garage I know she is safe from harms way :)..

I am sure you will get your Mini up and running in no time and the best thing is that you have all of your parts back so you are 90% already there..

I wish you all the very best and when you do finally get her back on the road again. Don't forget to take the rotor out of the distributor if you have to park your beloveded Mini anywhere for a period of time. That way it might slow down the would be thieves :)..

Anyway thanks for the pics and keep us posted :)...

If you knew the full story you'd have a very different opinion. My story's very similar to your friend's in that virtually no action was taken for around 7-8 weeks and for most of that time I was treated as a nuicance. I was just persistant and lucky enough to get contact details of someone else at the station who did in 72 hours what the uniform cops couldn't achieve in 8 weeks!!

Like I said in the original post - unfortunately I can't share the full story here but as far as the system goes it's actually pretty average....sadly.

Cheers,
BC.

Thanks DJG-14U - I really appreciate that. And as far as my mini goes - ionce it's fixed again it ain't leaving that garage unless I'm with it for the WHOLE time. It will have an Alarm and imobiliser and the newest strongest steering lock. I have certainly learnt from my BIG mistake, don't worry about that. I just hope that others have learnt from this too.

I always believed that I should be able to use my mini as an everyday driver just as its previous owners had done without any concerns of it being taken. How wrong I was. I'm also super lucky. I still can't believe that I got everything back! And the only things that were damaged was my radio and rear venetion. Really spewing about that but I'm sure it could have been much worse - so I'm countin me blessins!! The twit got my Leyland boot badge and S badge and put them in the radio speaker cover. It looked crap anyway so I'm not sure what he thought he was achieving? And he painted the venetian black.
