Bore and hone block
grind crank
deck block
clean engine block
fit cam bearings

That sounds like a good price. I'd be happy with that :)

I spent $700 on parts alone, rebuilding the MK2 S box ((no synchros replaced, they are good) - and $1300 on new parts, machining and balancing of the 1360 I'm running now.
73mm Hypatec pistons
regrind MK1 S crank to 10/10
New bearings & thrusts
New oil pump
rebore & hone 1300 auto block
2 new exhaust valves
new bronze valve guides
deck head and block
Balance crank & flywheel (rods done before)

OK I did all the labour, and got a few freebies- but that price also included a new B&B clutch plate and Orange dot diaphragm.

$40 worht of gasket si the head alone well it depends whether you are the buyer or the seller.
I buy a head gasket SET for a 1098 mini for less than $8 so you can imagine the what the rest of the parts can be bought for if you look at it that way.

I rebuild all my gearboxes and also replace lay shafts and diff pins with competition ones on std motors (non oversized motors)

boring gets a bit more expensive and so also lightening internals can get a bit line bores etc.

I always say you can get a 50% power increase for a good cheap price but to add another 20% then you will pay the same price again and then to add another 10% ontop of that you will pay the same amount again thats why you look at rons (mk1brk) mini and $14k went under the bonnet to gain 81.8BHP and so forth so forth yes it come down a lot when you can do most of it yourself buteven then not everyone has the ability or machinary to do a build themselves.
not everyone has a graham russell or drmini living around the corner cos those are the expenses that most poeple forget the favors and bit of help here, put a real dollar value on it and work out what it costs.

$2000 (1275) should be the average for a decent rebuild incl gearbox, any other modifications (head, cam, diff) should be a bit more.

Hey Tk, you forgot to mention the crown wheel and pinion and the bolts that hold that on are 5 quid each.I would go with a 2 core radiator as the 4 cores are not that brilliant.
sorry all i just read the front page and didnt realise there was 2 pages, but its all true what i said.
its all the small things that cost huge dollars, change the guids you have to do the valve seats, change the cam you do the followers the list goes on and on.

Yeah I know - I'm an idiot for paying full retail but some of us have little choice because we're not in the trade - but the point was that I can't see anyone doing a rebuild for $50 even if you used second hand parts.
